Structural Engineer in Training (EIT)About the Role

Our Client is seeking a motivated Structural Engineer in Training (EIT) to join their team in Phoenix, AZ. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity for an engineer looking to develop their technical expertise and progress toward professional licensure.

The Structural Engineer in Training will assist with the analysis and design of building structures under the supervision of licensed structural engineers. The role will involve preparing engineering calculations, supporting structural modeling and detailing, and contributing to the development of construction documents using CAD and related engineering software.

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, technically curious, and interested in developing practical, innovative, constructible, and cost-effective structural design solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the analysis and design of building structures under the direction of licensed structural engineers.

  • Prepare structural engineering calculations and supporting documentation.

  • Perform structural analysis to evaluate loads, member capacities, and overall structural performance.

  • Support structural modeling, detailing, and development of construction documents.

  • Develop plans, sections, and structural details using CAD software.

  • Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, and multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Review architectural and engineering drawings and specifications for structural coordination and compliance.

  • Assist in identifying and resolving structural design and constructability issues.

  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to technical discussions.

  • Assist with preparation of technical reports and project documentation.

  • Support internal quality control and review processes.

  • Apply applicable building codes and engineering standards to project work.

  • Work under the supervision of licensed structural engineers while progressively developing independent engineering responsibilities.

  • Contribute to practical, innovative, constructible, and cost-effective design solutions.

Required Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of structural engineering experience preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or eligibility to obtain EIT certification within a reasonable timeframe.

  • Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and building design.

  • Experience with structural analysis and engineering calculations.

  • Ability to evaluate structural loads, member capacities, and overall structural performance.

  • Proficiency with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.

  • Experience interpreting architectural and engineering drawings.

  • Strong understanding of, or ability to quickly learn, applicable building codes and standards, including:

    • IBC

    • ASCE 7

    • ACI

    • AISC

  • Experience with structural analysis and design software such as RISA-3D, ETABS, ADAPT Builder, RAM, or similar platforms.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with project managers and multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Ability to take direction while progressively developing independent responsibility.

  • Strong interest in innovative, constructible, and cost-effective structural engineering solutions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Revit or other BIM software.

  • Experience with building structural design and multidisciplinary coordination.

  • Experience working with architectural and engineering project teams.

  • Familiarity with construction documents, structural detailing, and project quality control processes.

  • Progress toward professional engineering licensure.
