4-Day School Week
SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY ASSISTANT (SLPA)
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant is responsible for assisting the Speech-Language Pathologist in providing speech/language therapy services to students.




RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Assist the Speech-Language Pathologist with speech-language and hearing screenings.
  2. Assist the Speech-Language Pathologist during assessment of students.
  3. Assist with informal documentation as directed by the Speech-Language Pathologist.
  4. Assist with clerical duties such as preparing materials and scheduling activities as directed by the Speech-Language Pathologist.
  5. Perform checks and maintenance of equipment.
  6. Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
  7. Document student performance and report this information to the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
  8. Complete Medicaid logs and submit to district.
  9. Collect data for monitoring quality improvement.
  10. Support the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist public relations programs and in-service training.
  11. Exhibit compliance with regulations regarding the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant's job responsibilities.
  12. Attend meetings, district activities and trainings as assigned.
  13. Maintain open communication with students, parents, community and staff.
  14. Continue personal and professional development through involvement in professional organizations and by attending and presenting at professional conferences, conducting colleague visits, facilitating school visitation, writing for publication and engaging in professional reading.
  15. Represent the district in a professional manner and in the best interest of the district.
  16. Perform additional duties and accept other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  1. Associate's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology.
  2. Experience working with children in an educational setting.
  3. Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
  4. CPR/First Aid Certification
  5. Ability to work collaboratively under supervision.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of instructional delivery techniques.
  7. Demonstrated proficiency in documentation/observation skills.
  8. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  10. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, parents, community and staff.
  11. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
