Clinical Lab Scientist - Per Diem*

*IMPORTANT NOTE: In lieu of benefits due to "per diem" status, 15% will be added to the hourly rate. Per diem employees are offered work on an "as-needed" basis.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs various chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, microscopic, serology/Immunology, molecular testing, bacteriology, and blood bank testing to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Must be thoroughly familiar with the calibration, use and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Draws venous, capillary, blood as well as performing Drug Screen collections all according to protocol. Works together with lab and other department staff to create a smooth workflow.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education:

  • A 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Science.

Licensure required:

  • Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist Medical Technologist, or eligible for licensure as a “General Supervisor of a Licensed Laboratory” with the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health.
  • License AMT (American Medical Technologist) or ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology).

Minimum Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 year’s full time experience working as a licensed Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS).
  • Ability to communicate with employees, physicians, patients and administrative staff in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Excellent computer skills with an emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, proven problem solving and experience in providing confidential administrative support.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Procedures

  • Be totally familiar with all procedures as outlined in the procedure manual.
  • Perform laboratory procedures in as timely a fashion as accuracy will allow using technical knowledge and expertise, insuring proper specimen procedure and correct final report.

Equipment

  • Learn the operation and function of all lab equipment and instrumentation for the purpose of troubleshooting any malfunction.
  • Effect repairs as needed under the supervision of the Lab Manager and/or Assist Chief Tech.

Specimens

  • Obtain blood, urine and other clinical specimens in a manner, which will insure acceptable and properly identified samples. Strict adherence to two patient identifier policies.

Lab Order

  • Enters Lab orders into LIS correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Has overall knowledge of LIS including looking up results, faxing & printing results, specimen tracking, call list, and pending list.
