Job Description

Dungarvin is seeking a Senior Payroll Administrator to lead high-volume payroll operations with a focus on accuracy, speed, and consistency. In this role, you will serve as a key payroll expert, ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time while maintaining compliance, supporting reporting needs, and protecting system integrity across multiple states.

You will partner closely with HR, Accounting, and business leaders to resolve payroll issues, strengthen processes, and enhance the overall employee experience. This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys hands-on payroll execution while also contributing to continuous improvement in a mission-driven environment.

This is not purely transactional payroll work. It requires strong ownership of payroll accuracy, a solid understanding of compliance requirements, and the ability to identify, investigate, and resolve root-cause issues in collaboration with cross-functional partners.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Payroll Support & Employee Service: Serve as a point of contact for payroll-related calls, emails, and employee inquiries, providing first-level support for UKG (Kronos) and ADP. Research and resolve payroll issues, answer questions, escalate complex concerns when needed, and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Payroll Systems & Transition Support: Support payroll operations during the transition from UKG (Kronos) to Workday by working across both systems and processes. Maintain accurate employee data, assist with system validation, and ensure payroll information remains accurate throughout the transition.  Assist with special projects during transition time to ensure successful implementation.
  • Payroll Administration & Data Maintenance: Process payroll edits, corrections, employee updates, and maintain payroll system integrity. Audit payroll data and reconcile timekeeping records to ensure accurate earnings, hours worked, deductions, and employee information.
  • Employee Communications & Payroll Coordination: Prepare and distribute payroll-related communications, including electronic W-2 enrollment campaigns, payroll announcements, and other employee correspondence. Maintain payroll documentation and support ongoing payroll initiatives.
  • Payroll Processing & Tax Administration: Following approximately six months of training, process multi-state bi-weekly payroll for assigned business units.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership & Process Improvement: Partner with HR, Accounting, and Operations to resolve payroll issues, improve payroll processes, maintain supporting documentation, and identify opportunities to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications

MUST HAVE:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Payroll Expertise: 4+ years of payroll experience in a high-volume environment, with responsibility for end-to-end payroll processing and multi-state or multi-jurisdiction tax compliance.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of payroll tax laws across multiple states, wage and hour regulations, and federal, state, and local labor and tax compliance requirements, including payroll cycles and reporting standards.
  • Payroll & Timekeeping Systems: Experience with payroll and HRIS platforms such as  UKG/UltiPro (Ultimate Software), ADP, Paychex, and QuickBooks, as well as Kronos and other automated payroll and timekeeping systems.
  • Microsoft 365 & Excel Expertise: Skilled in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Accounting Systems: Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics and general accounting practices, including reconciliations and reporting.
  • Professional certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), or other relevant payroll/HR credentials.
  • Payroll & Timekeeping Systems: Experience with payroll and HRIS platforms such as Workday.
Additional Information

SKILLS CRUCIAL TO SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE:

  • Attention to Detail in High-Volume Environments: Maintains accuracy while managing large payroll volumes and recurring deadlines, identifying and preventing errors.
  • Adaptability & Problem-Solving: Thrives in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities, system changes, and acquisition-related complexity. Quickly identifies and resolves payroll discrepancies, system issues, and inefficiencies.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Strong team-first mindset, supporting colleagues during peak payroll cycles and partnering across payroll, HR, and Accounting to resolve issues and maintain alignment.
  • Communication & Stakeholder Management: Communicates clearly and professionally with employees, supervisors, and cross-functional partners, explaining payroll matters and responding to inquiries in a way that builds trust and understanding.
  • Organization, Time Management & Reliability: Manages multiple priorities and deadlines effectively, ensuring all payroll responsibilities are completed accurately and consistently.
  • Technical Skills & Reporting: Quickly learns payroll systems and tools, runs reports, and uses data to support payroll processing and validation.
  • Root Cause Thinking & Process Improvement: Identifies root causes of payroll issues and contributes ideas to improve processes, reduce risk, and increase efficiency.
  • Professionalism & Integrity: Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive employee information with professionalism and discretion.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS ROLE:

You'll be joining a tenured, highly supportive team that genuinely works together, especially during high-volume payroll cycles. The environment is collaborative, steady, and built on trust. People step in for each other, communicate openly, and take pride in getting the work done right.

This is also a strong opportunity to be part of a team navigating growth and system evolution, including the transition to Workday. If you enjoy being part of a team that is improving how work gets done and want exposure to change without chaos, this role offers that balance.
