Job description

We are partnering with a higher education organization seeking a Payroll Analyst. The Payroll Analyst is responsible for processing, auditing, and analyzing payroll transactions to ensure accurate and timely payment of employees in compliance with policies, collective bargaining agreements, federal and state regulations, and established payroll procedures. The incumbent serves as a key resource for payroll administration, workforce operations, and payroll-related reporting, while supporting assigned departments and maintaining cross-functional expertise to provide operational continuity across the
organization.
Responsibilities:
  • Process and review payroll transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Audit payroll data, including timekeeping records, pay codes, earnings, deductions, overtime, shift differentials, and leave transactions to ensure payroll accuracy prior to payroll close.
  • Process payroll adjustments, retroactive payments, off-cycle payrolls, supplemental earnings, termination pay, and leave payouts.
  • Ensure accurate application of wage rates, premiums, shift differentials, and contractual provisions under applicable union agreements, including 32BJ, TWU, and other bargaining units.
  • Review payroll exceptions and resolve discrepancies in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Monitor and reconcile employee time and attendance records within workforce management systems, including UKG/Kronos and related applications.
  • Collaborate with managers and departmental administrators to resolve timekeeping discrepancies and ensure compliance with attendance and scheduling requirements.
  • Perform routine payroll audits and validation checks to ensure adherence to internal controls, audit requirements, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Generate, analyze, and distribute payroll reports related to earnings, taxes, leave balances, labor distribution, overtime, and workforce metrics.
  • Support internal and external audits by gathering documentation, researching transactions, and responding to audit inquiries.
  • Reconcile payroll-related accounts and deductions, including taxes, benefit deductions, retirement contributions, union dues, and garnishments.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, providing timely, professional, and customer-focused support.
  • Research and resolve payroll-related issues, ensuring clear communication regarding pay calculations, deductions, taxes, and adjustments.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ yrs' experience in payroll administration, payroll processing, accounting, or workforce, operations.
  • Experience processing payroll in a large, complex organization.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience working in a unionized environment preferred.
  • Experience with payroll and workforce management systems such as UKG/Kronos, PeopleSoft, Workday, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred

Compensation: $30-34/hr
Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
