Position: After School Program Instructor

The After School Program Instructor will develop and implement After School Program activities. The instructor will maintain the day to day compliance of the After School Program. This includes homework assistance, recreational activities, the arts, and sports & fitness. The instructor will also maintain rules and regulations while always keeping the children's needs the highest priority.  

The NRCCS team offers robust and expansive programming for a school our size. Therefore, we work as a school team to provide appropriate and adequate support to both students and families. This requires staff members to be flexible and able to balance academic, SEL, and physical needs of K-8 students in a respectful and professional manner.

SALARY INFORMATION: Pay range is $22-$30/ hour and is dependent on experience. 

The After School Program is a non benefited position. The program runs Monday - Thursday from 3:00-5pm during regularly scheduled school days. 

Primary Responsibilities:  The following are examples of primary duties assigned to the After School instructor. Other related primary duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure student safety at all times
• Implement lesson plans, and run day-to-day curriculum with students
• Teach a combination of program activities to provide academic tutoring and support, skill-driven sports, fitness & wellness activities, and visual and performing arts instruction
• Resolve all student-related issues as they arise; communicate and problem-solve with families and communicate all issues to the Head of School
• Promote NRCCS' character development for all students
• Exhibit excellent communication with parents, students, school staff, and coworkers
• Ensure that state ratios are adhered to and are based on student attendance
• Follow appropriate tracking of students, being able to know where each student is at all times.
• Participate in continuing education and necessary trainings
• Will attend all scheduled staff meetings, training, and any other meetings deemed necessary.
• Assist with program set-up and cleanup
• Assist with drills to practice site evacuation and emergency procedures

Additional Responsibilities: 

1. Document incident/ accident reports when needed 

2. Assist in maintaining the After School Program clean and orderly 

3. May consult with parents concerning student issues

Personal and Professional Development:

Participating fully in professional development with other NRCCS teachers and Head of School.

Setting and actively pursuing professional as well as personal goals.

Continuing knowledge and implementation of current research based educational trends.

Necessary qualifications: 

• PDIS Trainings
• Ability to pass state, federal criminal background checks
• All hires will participate in professional development about developmentally appropriate practices.

Essential Job Functions: 

Decision Making: An example of a typical decision made by an individual in this position is to interpret  policies/procedures and best practice. An incorrect decision made by this position could impact the  district legally causing financial condition of NRCCS to be affected. Errors made in decision-making  could potentially result in substantial cost to the District or damage the credibility of the District. 

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical  procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and  procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond professionally to questions  from groups of parents, community members, commissions, colleagues and the NRCCS Board of  Education. 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and  amounts such as interest, discounts, commissions,  proportions, percentage, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, and  geometry 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid  conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram  form, and deal with several abstract concrete variables. Ability to analyze and use data to supervise the  delivery of instruction and the school improvement process. 

Technology Skills: Proficient use of technology which includes: basic operations and concepts, word  processing, spreadsheets, internet usage, critical evaluation of information, data analysis, email,  integration of technology. 

Other Skills And Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in  education. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and  community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to copy,  coordinate, instruct, evaluate and negotiate. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district  requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to discipline students consistent with district  procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality. 

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit,  talk, or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel;  reach with hands and arms. The employee must lift items weighing 50 pounds from floor level to an  elevation of four feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to  adjust focus.
