The Truck Service Assistant General Manager is a key leadership role supporting the General Manager in running a busy Truck Service Center. You will help lead technicians and service advisors, ensure fast, high-quality repairs, maintain safety and compliance standards, optimize shop efficiency, and contribute to revenue growth through parts, service, and tire sales in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.This hands-on position is ideal for a motivated leader with solid technical knowledge of heavy-duty truck repair, proven team management skills, and a strong focus on customer service and operational results.
Reports to: Truck Service General Manager
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the General Manager in overseeing all Truck Service Center operations, including service bays, parts inventory, and customer interactions.
  • Support technicians with troubleshooting, diagnostics, and timely, high-quality repairs on heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
  • Help recruit, train, coach, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of diesel technicians and service staff.
  • Enforce strict safety protocols, environmental regulations, company policies, and industry standards (OSHA, DOT, etc.).
  • Monitor shop productivity, workflow, repair turnaround times, and customer satisfaction to drive continuous improvement.
  • Assist with parts and tire inventory management, cost control, and vendor relationships.
  • Contribute to revenue growth by identifying upselling opportunities for preventive maintenance, parts, and additional services.
  • Handle customer concerns professionally, resolve issues quickly, and build loyalty with professional drivers and fleet operators.
  • Support scheduling, labor management, and shift coverage to ensure reliable 24/7 service availability.
  • Track key metrics (sales, margins, efficiency, safety) and collaborate on initiatives to improve performance.
  • Promote truck service offerings and help increase utilization across the Travel Center.

Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of progressive leadership experience in truck service, diesel repair shops, heavy equipment maintenance, or travel center truck care (preferred).
  • Strong technical knowledge of heavy-duty truck and trailer systems, diagnostics, and repairs.
  • Demonstrated success leading and developing technical teams in a high-volume, fast-paced setting.
  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to handle pressure and deliver exceptional service.
  • Experience managing parts inventory, controlling costs, and working with shop management systems.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean record; CDL preferred. ASE certifications or manufacturer training a strong plus.
