Verdant Specialty Solutions is looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to join our Finance team. This is an onsite role based in Houston, Texas, with the opportunity to play a key leadership role in our global accounting organization.

Reporting to the Controller, you’ll help lead accounting operations and financial reporting across our U.S. and international businesses. We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical accounting skills with a practical, hands-on approach, and who is ready to help us strengthen processes, controls, systems, and the Finance team as we continue to grow.

What You’ll Own
  • Key aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and issue resolution
  • Preparation and review of consolidated financial statements and related financial and variance analysis
  • General ledger accounting, intercompany transactions, foreign currency matters, and multi-entity reporting
  • Inventory and manufacturing accounting, including valuation, reserves, cycle counts, and physical inventories
  • Fixed asset and capital expenditure accounting
  • Internal controls over financial reporting and remediation of identified control deficiencies
  • Coordination of internal and external audits
  • Technical accounting research and evaluation of complex or non-routine transactions
  • SAP accounting processes, financial master data, controls, data integrity, and process improvements
  • Support for U.S. tax compliance and UK and Germany VAT reporting
  • Supervision, coaching, and development of Corporate Accounting team members
  • Partnership with the Controller as a key member of the Finance leadership team
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including close, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit support
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and consolidated financial reporting
  • Experience with inventory accounting, including valuation and reserves
  • Experience working in an ERP-based accounting environment; SAP S/4HANA experience strongly preferred
  • Manufacturing or process-industry accounting experience preferred
  • Technical accounting, internal controls, and multi-entity or international accounting experience preferred
  • CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification preferred
  • Someone who can dig into complex accounting issues, exercise sound judgment, improve processes, develop people, and collaborate effectively across the business
