Job Title: Construction Inspector

Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for an experienced Construction Inspector to support a diverse portfolio of public works projects in the San Antonio area, including transportation, water and sewer infrastructure, and building construction. You will perform field and office-based inspections on civil, infrastructure, land development, utility, roadway, drainage, and vertical construction projects to verify compliance with plans, specifications, safety requirements, and applicable codes. The position suits a detail-oriented professional with at least 2 years of inspection experience who enjoys working in the field, collaborating with project teams, and contributing to high-quality, safe, and compliant construction delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections on civil, infrastructure, land development, utility, roadway, drainage, and vertical construction projects to verify compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to project requirements, applicable codes, and safety standards.
  • Conduct inspections related to asphalt, concrete, utilities, drainage systems, stormwater infrastructure, sidewalks, and site development improvements.
  • Observe and document contractor workmanship, construction progress, and site conditions throughout all phases of construction.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed daily reports, inspection logs, photographs, and other project documentation.
  • Identify deficiencies or non-conforming work and clearly communicate findings to project managers, contractors, and engineering staff.
  • Review engineering plans, specifications, contract documents, and project requirements to prepare for and support field inspections.
  • Coordinate with contractors, engineers, project managers, and owners to help resolve field issues and support timely project delivery.
  • Track project progress and assist with quality assurance and quality control activities to ensure work meets required standards.
  • Promote and maintain safe work practices on active construction sites and encourage adherence to safety protocols among all site personnel.
  • Support a variety of public works projects in the San Antonio area, including transportation, water and sewer systems, and building construction.
  • Collaborate with office and field staff in a hybrid role to ensure consistent communication and alignment on project goals and inspection findings.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Construction Inspector or in a closely related inspection role.
  • Hands-on experience performing roadway inspections, utility inspections, or vertical building inspections.
  • Civil and site construction inspection experience, including exposure to public works projects.
  • Asphalt inspection experience, including verification of materials, placement, and compaction.
  • Experience with roadway, drainage, water, sewer, sidewalk, and land development projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, contract documents, and project requirements.
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills, including preparation of daily reports, logs, and photographic records.
  • Demonstrated experience in quality control or quality assurance on construction projects.
  • Knowledge of construction safety practices and applicable codes and standards.
  • Ability to identify non-conforming work and effectively communicate findings to project stakeholders.
  • Capability to work in a hybrid field and office capacity within the San Antonio area.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Municipal or public works project experience is preferred.

Work Environment

You will spend significant time on active construction sites performing inspections in outdoor conditions, including exposure to varying weather, uneven terrain, and typical construction site noise and activity. Office time will focus on reviewing plans and specifications, preparing reports, and coordinating with project teams. The role involves regular interaction with contractors, engineers, project managers, and owners, requiring clear communication and professional conduct in both field and office settings. Appropriate field attire and personal protective equipment are required when working on construction sites to ensure safety and compliance with site protocols.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Antonio, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $31.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
