Who We Are:

Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.

Job Overview:

Under direction of the Bakers, the individual supports bakers in preparing and baking a variety of goods, ensuring accurate measurement of ingredients and proper operation of baking equipment. They also maintain cleanliness in the bakery area, assist with inventory management, and uphold food safety standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist bakers in preparing and baking a variety of goods, including bread, pastries, cookies, and desserts, following established recipes and procedures
  • Weigh and measure ingredients accurately, and assist in mixing, shaping, and proofing dough as needed
  • Operate baking equipment under the guidance of experienced bakers, ensuring safe and proper usage
  • Monitor baking progress and assist in adjusting oven temperatures and baking times as necessary to achieve desired results
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of the bakery area, including equipment, workstations, and storage areas
  • Support inventory management by receiving, storing, and rotating ingredients and supplies
  • Assist in packaging and displaying finished products for sale, ensuring attractive presentation and adherence to quality standards
  • Follow food safety and sanitation procedures at all times, including proper handling and storage of ingredients and finished products

Required Qualifications:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Basic culinary education is an asset. 
  • Basic understanding of kitchen/bakery operations. Minimum six months experience in a bakery or kitchen setting is required. 
  • Entry-level culinary skills with knife skills and attention to detail. 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills. 
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines. 
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. 
  • Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and follow instructions. 
  • All successful candidates (over the age of 18) will be required to go through a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.  

Special Clothing and Equipment: 

  • Uniform and safety equipment will be provided by Heritage Park; and 
  • Footwear, as designated by the Heritage Park Costume Department, will be provided by the employee. 

Special Working Conditions: 

  • The position will be exposed to hot and cold temperatures; and 
  • This position is physically demanding, and the incumbent must have the ability to lift heavy items and stand for long periods of time. 

Hours of Work: 

  • The standard hours for this position are variable based on operational needs 
  • Early morning, evening and weekend work may be required throughout the year.
