POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor - Research - Critical Care Medicine - Non Tenure
DEPARTMENT: Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

  • To conduct research both independently and collaboratively.
  • To participate in teaching, training, scholarly activities and/or service/administration
  • Responsible for initiating, soliciting, and coordinating well-designed research projects that have potential for external funding.
  • May participate in activities to plan, direct, implement, coordinate, and improve services and technical operations within the research activities of the organization.
  • To work with Scientific Directors and colleagues to maximize the function of the organization’s scientists and clinician-scientists.
  • To provide, communicate and implement strategic, operational, and programmatic plans and policies to achieve the mission, vision and values of Cincinnati Children’s.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

Research, Teaching and/or Training:

  • Conduct research both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ensure that all research functions operate at the highest level of quality, while maintaining fiscal soundness.
  • Participate in collaborative research projects through interactions with researchers as well as individuals from other divisions/departments.
  • Participate in mentoring graduate students, post-doctoral and research fellows, residents, and students to be involved in functions related to the research mission.
  • Contributes to research and teaching including: serving as a teacher, role model and mentor internally; participate in the development and direction of research and/or educational program at the division, department or system level.
  • Complete evaluations for students, residents, and peers. Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature, and seminars.
  • Enhance professional knowledge by attending seminars and professional meetings. Implement knowledge into research.
Service and/or Administration:
  • Participates in the development and performance improvement of research or educational programs.
  • Participates in the administration of the basic and clinical translational research programs; provides input in the development of departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Maintain Quality Control programs; ensure that Quality Control Checks are conducted, and records are maintained on each procedure.
  • Participates in local, regional, or national research/scientific affairs through membership in societies or specialty governing boards.
  • Promote interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships and encourage team concepts.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of long- and short-term goals and objectives and ensures that they are appropriate to the mission of the Division.
  • Complete evaluations for students, residents and peers.
  • Coordinate, evaluate and manage annual fiscal operating and equipment budgets.
  • Conduct fiscal analysis and monitor fiscal utilization of scope of services.
Scholarly Activity:
  • Demonstrates on-going commitment to and participates in scholarly activities as evidenced by significant involvement in research programs, publication of original research investigation, educational research, reviews, chapters or books.
  • Responsible for initiating, soliciting, and coordinating new well-designed research projects that have potential for external funding.
  • Present experimental results at scientific meetings.
  • Applies advanced training in research methods to design and conduct basic and clinical translation research on various areas of clinical specialty.
  • Collaborate and write major grant proposals that will result in substantial extramural support.
  • Seek and receive sustained and substantial support from local, regional and/or national sources such as the NIH and NSF either as principal investigator or as a co-investigator.
  • Participate in collaborative research projects through interactions with researchers as well as individuals from other divisions/departments.
  • Publish results of your research via independent and collaborative writings.
  • Propose research and manage the development, implementation and assessment of long- and short-term goals and objectives.
Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE


Required:
·PhD or Medical (MD/DO) degree or equivalent in a related scientific or research field
·Three years related experience in research field research and/or laboratory environment
·Assistant Professor appointment or eligibility required
