Job description

Position Summary

The HR Generalist will serve as a key member of the HR team, supporting daily HR operations and helping ensure consistent, compliant, and employee-focused practices across JDH Contracting and Northern Lights Locating.

This role will be partnering closely with the HR Director and leadership team to support recruiting, employee relations, onboarding, compliance, and HR systems while providing employees with a trusted point of contact for HR support.

Key Responsibilities

Recruiting & Talent Acquisition

· Assist with sourcing, screening, and coordinating interviews for open positions across both companies as needed.

· Manage the full pre-employment process including background checks, drug screens, and physicals, where required.

· Support onboarding processes and ensure a positive new hire experience.

Onboarding & HR Systems

· Coordinate new hire onboarding and orientation processes.

· Maintain employee data within HR systems including Paycom.

· Ensure employee records are accurate, complete, and compliant.

Employee Relations

· Serve as a first point of contact for employee HR questions and concerns.

· Support employee relations investigations and documentation.

· Assist managers with HR best practices and employee management guidance.

Compliance & HR Administration

· Maintain employee files and documentation in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

· Manage all I-9 compliance processes, including audits and record management.

· Support HR compliance related to FMCSA/DOT regulations in coordination with the Safety Director.

· Manage and monitor the random drug testing program and reporting.

Payroll & Benefits Support

· Provide backup support for payroll processing for JDH Contracting and Northern Lights.

· Assist HR leadership with benefits administration, including health insurance and 401(k) programs.

· Assist with HR reporting and analytics as needed.

HR Projects & Continuous Improvement

· Assist the HR Director with HR initiatives and process improvements.

· Support development of HR policies, procedures, and programs that strengthen employee engagement and organizational effectiveness.

Qualifications

Required Experience

· Minimum 5 years of HR Generalist experience

· Experience working in fast-paced operational or field-based environments

· Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance including:

o FMLA

o I-9 compliance

o employment regulations

o payroll coordination

Technical Skills

· Experience with HRIS systems (Paycom preferred)

· Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)

Professional Skills

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

· Ability to manage confidential information with discretion

· Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

· Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines

· Comfortable interacting with employees at all levels of the organization

Preferred Qualifications
