Job Title: Student Worker - Office Assistant - History

Job Classification: Administrative and Office Services, Student

Work Schedule: 10 - 15 hrs per week between the hours of 8 am - 5 pm, Monday - Friday

Job Description:

Position Overview
The Department of History is seeking friendly, responsible, and service-oriented undergraduate students to join our office staff as Student Office Assistants. Student Office Assistants report to the Office Manager and administrative associate, and they provide essential administrative support to department staff and faculty. In this role, students will primarily staff one of the reception desks in the History suites and will serve as a welcoming first point of contact for faculty, students, and visitors.

Required Qualifications
- Must be an undergraduate student enrolled at Baylor University
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Friendly, professional demeanor and a commitment to customer service

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with social media (preferred but not required)
- Interest in or passion for history strongly encouraged

Job Responsibilities
- Staff a reception desk and warmly greet faculty, students, and visitors
- Answer the reception desk phone and appropriately direct calls
- Complete daily mail runs to and from the Baylor mail center
- Assist faculty with print, copy, and scan requests
- Monitor the department inbox and assist with conference room reservations
- Inventory and replenish coffee, printer paper, and office supplies in the History suites
- Assist with departmental social media efforts, including appearing in reels or supporting the student social media assistant
- Assist with the creation and/or proofreading of newsletters, brochures, and other departmental materials
- Run on-campus errands as needed
- Assist with department events, including set-up and tear-down
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Office Manager and/or Administrative Associate

Other Expectations
- Maintain regular, punctual attendance
- Comply with all university policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality of departmental information and records
- Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Perform other duties as needed to support Baylor University's mission

Learning Outcomes
Student Office Assistants will gain hands-on experience in an academic office environment and develop valuable professional skills, including customer service, organization, communication, problem-solving, and workplace professionalism. Students will also gain insight into administrative operations within a university setting.
