Job description

Sentinel Real Estate is an independently owned real estate investment management firm established in 1969. The firm currently has $9.1 billion in institutional quality real estate assets, including $2 Billon in office and industrial assets, under management on behalf of 124 domestic and international clients.

We are seeking an Assistant Controller to join the Financial Reporting Group. The Financial Reporting Group is responsible for all accounting and financial reporting at the fund level including all monthly, quarterly and annual reporting and additional reporting requirements for individual investors. This includes the preparation of all financial statements, footnotes and return calculations, fee calculations (Property Management, Asset Management, Incentive/Performance and Acquisition/Disposition fees).As such, the Financial Reporting Group works with several departments, including Asset Management and Portfolio Management and the work of the group has high visibility.

The Financial Report Group coordinates with Asset Managers on variances, recodes and any other property issues; coordinate with A/P, Revenue Control and Operations on their respective properties; and report monthly on major residential variances. The group is also responsible for distribution calculations and wires, annual audits and any other property/fund issues impacting accounting or reporting for the funds.

As Assistant Controller, responsibilities include:

  • Manage, motivate and develop staff of Managers and Accountants.
  • Review all financial reporting for assigned funds, including monthly, quarterly and annual reports, as well as all distribution calculations.
  • Ensure compliance with financial reporting, accounting and fee provisions of Investment Management Agreements.
  • Review and post all acquisition, disposition and financing transactions.
  • Coordinate, plan and oversee audits to ensure timely completion.
  • Schedule all work and coordinate with other groups (corporate, operations, etc.) where necessary.
  • Serve as contact for external auditors.
  • Assist managers when necessary and train them and their and staff on new issues and reporting guidelines.
  • Train and mentor staff.
