Job Summary
The Grounds Technician is responsible for providing grounds maintenance services at assigned sites. This role involves ensuring that grounds and athletic fields are attractive and safe, protecting against erosion, and performing a variety of special maintenance tasks. The position also supports the preparation of grounds for assemblies, events, and recreational activities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Pesticide Application:
    • Assist in the application of pesticides to control insects and weeds in accordance with established procedures.

  • Meetings and Training:
    • Attend unit meetings, in-service training, and workshops to gather necessary information for job performance.

  • Landscape Maintenance:
    • Clean landscaped areas and related items (e.g., storm drains, fields) to prevent flooding and remove hazards.
    • Maintain playground equipment to ensure safety and compliance with guidelines.
    • Plant and maintain a variety of landscaping materials (e.g., lawns, shrubbery, flowers) to enhance grounds appearance and protect against erosion.

  • Grounds and Equipment Maintenance:
    • Perform maintenance on grounds and job-related equipment (e.g., fix potholes, plow snow, salt lots).
    • Conduct vehicle and equipment inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.

  • Field Preparation:

  • Material and Supply Management:
