Job description

Palmetto Bluff is nestled along the May River in the Lowcountry of South Carolina between Hilton Head Island and Savannah. As an award winning 20,000 acre development, the development encompasses a private member’s only club which includes a marina, restaurants, an equestrian center, a shooting club, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, a lawn and racquet club, and more. In addition, Palmetto Bluff has an extensive nature preserve, walking trails, retail shopping, and a vibrant village, all which pay homage to the region’s rich heritage.

Job Summary:

With the health and playability of the turfgrass on the golf course being a major priority, it is important that all components of the irrigation system are operating proficiently. In conjunction with the Golf Course Superintendents, the Irrigation Technician will be responsible for maintaining and repairing the irrigation system while also assisting in monitoring irrigation needs.

Essential Functions:

Job duties include, although are not limited to:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and install sprinklers
  • Monitor landscape sprinklers and valves for bunker edges and lake banks
  • Maintain valve boxes and keep marked
  • Maintain and install quick couplers
  • Raise and level sprinklers
  • Repair leaks and broken infrastructure
  • Monitor pump station, fertigation system and wells daily
  • Maintain and organize irrigation inventory
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair satellites
  • Proficient with Fault Finders and Line Locators
  • Establish relationship with Toro technicians
  • Train GCM staff as needed
  • Assist in scheduling of irrigation programs
  • Assist with all duties on golf course as required by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills; team orientated.
  • Desire to serve and create lifelong memories.
  • Previous irrigation experience required.
  • A degree in Turf Management desired.
  • Proficient with Toro sprinklers and Lynx programming.
  • Knowledgeable in electrical wiring, pipe repair of PVC and HDPE.
  • Love for the game of golf preferred.
  • Ability to comprehend instructions given in English or Spanish.
  • Ability to work 5 days a week, weekends and holidays.
  • Perform job responsibilities and operate equipment according to the company safety and training programs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Majority of tasks are performed outdoors in variable weather conditions, including hot, cold, windy and rainy.
  • Temperatures can be extreme but are usually moderate.
  • Frequently works near moving/mechanical parts.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to reach with arms and hands, bend and stoop, remain at post standing for periods of time, walk for a long distance, and is required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
