Our Passion is Food!
At Bon Appetit Management Company we are committed to two things, great food and outstanding service! At Bon Appetit you won't find our managers referring to a corporate recipe book or our chefs microwaving the lunch special. We do not have standardized recipes or central commissaries, instead, our chefs and managers are expected to stay abreast of current culinary trends and bring cutting edge food into their cafes. We are a restaurant company that operates in contract food service. That means you will have the freedom to be creative, take risks, and truly shine. We are committed to our staff growing, trying new things, and learning all that they can. Our rapid growth and breadth of accounts translates into exciting opportunities for our people!
The Assistant General Manager & Events Coordinator is a dynamic hospitality leader responsible for supporting daily operations and coordinating exceptional events across The Hangar and Camber complex in South San Francisco.
The complex offers approximately 15,000 square feet of distinctive indoor and outdoor event space, accommodating gatherings from 20 to 1,200 guests. Its versatile venues include an executive boardroom, conference and reception halls, private dining areas, Camber’s restaurant and terrace spaces, and full-complex buyouts. Events range from executive meetings and corporate conferences to team celebrations, receptions, dinners, and large-scale company functions. Explore The Hangar and Camber event spaces.
Working closely with the General Manager, culinary team, and operational leaders, this position helps drive financial performance, team development, service excellence, and client satisfaction. The role is ideal for a highly organized, hands-on leader who enjoys balancing the energy of daily hospitality operations with the detailed planning and execution of memorable events.
Key Responsibilities
Event Coordination & Execution
Coordinate events from initial operational planning through setup, service, and breakdown.
Translate event details into clear timelines, staffing plans, floor plans, staging requirements, and actionable instructions for culinary and service teams.
Attend event planning meetings to confirm scope, service style, audiovisual needs, equipment requirements, and client expectations.
Serve as the on-site operational lead for assigned events, making confident real-time decisions to ensure seamless execution.
Coordinate the use of multiple event spaces across The Hangar and Camber, including simultaneous events and full or partial venue buyouts.
Prepare and maintain event materials, timelines, diagrams, execution notes, and operational trackers.
Coordinate equipment, inventory, rentals, audiovisual support, and outside vendors based on event requirements.
Anticipate client and guest needs while ensuring each event delivers a polished, welcoming, and hospitality-driven experience.
Actively support event setup, service, and breakdown whenever needed.
Conduct post-event reviews and document client feedback, operational challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
Ensure event changes, final attendance, additional charges, and execution details are accurately documented to support billing and invoicing.
Restaurant & Complex Operations
Partner with the General Manager to oversee daily hospitality operations across The Hangar and Camber in accordance with approved budgets, company standards, and client expectations.
Support operational readiness across the complex, ensuring dining, meeting, event, preparation, storage, and service areas are organized and prepared for business.
Balance the needs of regular dining operations with private events, conference services, and venue buyouts.
Maintain strong coordination among restaurant, culinary, catering, facilities, audiovisual, security, and property-management partners.
Monitor food and beverage costs, purchasing, inventory, labor, and event-related expenses while identifying opportunities to minimize waste.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, flash reporting, and achievement of financial targets.
Track and submit vendor invoices accurately and on time.
Review operating procedures and service challenges to identify ways to improve efficiency, safety, performance, and the guest experience.
Take ownership of assigned projects and operational priorities, following through to completion.
Team Leadership & Development
Supervise managers, supervisors, and hourly team members in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
Support recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, scheduling, training, and performance management.
Develop and adjust staffing plans based on restaurant activity, event volume, guest counts, and operational needs.
Delegate responsibilities effectively and establish clear ownership and accountability across the team.
Lead pre-shift meetings, event briefings, and post-event debriefs.
Maintain accurate timekeeping and attendance records and address coverage or performance concerns promptly.
Provide ongoing coaching and constructive feedback to improve individual and team performance.
Promote the professional growth and development of team members.
Lead by example and reinforce professional, welcoming, and service-oriented behaviors throughout the complex.
Client & Guest Experience
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, event hosts, guests, employees, vendors, and internal partners.
Serve as a trusted on-site operational contact for assigned events and day-to-day service needs.
Ensure event execution aligns with approved plans, client expectations, and company standards.
Address client or guest concerns promptly, professionally, and with a solutions-focused approach.
Anticipate guest needs and proactively identify opportunities to elevate the experience.
Communicate client feedback, event outcomes, operational challenges, and follow-up needs to the appropriate teams.
Deliver a consistently positive and professional experience that encourages repeat events and long-term client relationships.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, HACCP, workplace safety, health, and fire regulations.
Monitor the proper storage, handling, labeling, and use of food, beverages, supplies, and equipment.
Maintain accurate temperature logs, cleaning schedules, safety records, and other required documentation.
Identify and address potential safety risks in real time, particularly during event setup, service, and breakdown.
Reinforce safety procedures through ongoing training, coaching, and accountability.
Report and document incidents, injuries, or compliance concerns according to company procedures.
Bachelor’s degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
Five to seven years of progressive experience in upscale food service, catering, events, restaurants, or hospitality operations.
Previous supervisory or management experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
Strong catering and event execution experience required.
Experience coordinating events across multiple venues or managing simultaneous events strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to balance detailed administrative responsibilities with visible, hands-on operational leadership.
Excellent organizational, project-coordination, and time-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple events, deadlines, and changing priorities without losing attention to detail.
Strong leadership, scheduling, training, coaching, and team-development capabilities.
Sound financial acumen, including experience with budgets, forecasts, purchasing, inventory, food costs, and labor management.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional business etiquette and client-relations abilities.
Effective problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience with event-management or catering software, such as Tripleseat, is preferred.
Knowledge of HACCP principles, food safety requirements, and proper food-storage and handling procedures.
ServSafe or applicable Department of Health certification preferred.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on restaurant and event needs.
