We are seeking an Assistant General Counsel to join our growing Legal Department. Reporting to the General Counsel, this role manages a broad portfolio of construction, risk management, commercial, and compliance related matters, and partners closely with project leadership, and functional teams across the company. This is a hands-on role suited for an attorney with 3 to 5 years of experience who is looking to grow within an in-house legal function in a dynamic, relationship-driven business environment.

What you'll be doing:

  • Draft review, and negotiate construction-related agreements, including subcontracts, purchase orders, professional service agreements, NDAs and change orders.

  • Provide day-to-day advice on contract interpretation, project performance issues, schedule and delay claims, scope disputes, change management, payment issues, liens/bonds, insurance and warranty obligations.

  • Help maintain the company's contract management system and internal legal records

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of contracting standards, playbooks, and internal processes to enhance efficiency and risk control.

  • Assist with claims management and coordinate with outside counsel on litigation or dispute resolution as needed.

  • Develop and provide training to operations teams on contract administration, documentation practices, and risk awareness.

  • Support the General Counsel on ad hoc legal matters including corporate governance, risk management, compliance, and employment issues as needed.

What you need for this position:

Required:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Active bar admission in good standing.

  • 3 to 5 years of legal experience in construction law, commercial transactions, or related legal practice, ideally with a blend of law firm and in-house background.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into plain business language.

  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver practical solutions in a dynamic project-driven environment.

  • Skilled communicator with a collaborative mindset and commitment to DeAngelis Diamond’s core values.

  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills with the ability to balance legal precision and business practicality.

  • Self-starter who can work independently while keeping the General Counsel informed of key issues.

Preferred:

  • Prior in-house legal experience, particularly in construction, engineering, or real estate sectors.

  • Familiarity with AIA, DBIA and other construction agreements.

  • Knowledge and experience with Florida lien law, prompt pay, warranties, indemnification, and limitation of liability provisions.
