Job description

The Women's Wrestling Assistant Coach assists the Head Women's Wrestling Coach in all aspects of operating a competitive intercollegiate wrestling program. Responsibilities include coaching, recruiting, student-athlete development, academic support, program administration, fundraising, and compliance with institutional and governing body regulations. The Assistant Coach is expected to promote academic excellence, sportsmanship, leadership, and personal growth among student-athletes while supporting the mission and values of the institution.

Salary & Benefits:

$35,000-$40,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Comprehensive benefits packageincluding medical, vision, dental, life insurance, generous employer retirement contributions, wellness resources and tuition waiver effective on date of hire.

Primary Duties:

1. Recruiting and Retention

  • Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes.

  • Build and maintain relationships with high school, club, and junior college coaches.

  • Coordinate recruiting visits, communication, and follow-up activities.

  • Assist with retention efforts and support student-athlete success.

  • Monitor eligibility requirements and academic progress of student-athletes.

2. Coaching and Student-Athlete Development

  • Assist in planning and conducting practices, workouts, and competitions.

  • Teach wrestling techniques, strategies, and match preparation.

  • Support strength and conditioning programs and athlete wellness initiatives.

  • Evaluate individual and team performance and implement improvement plans.

  • Foster teamwork, discipline, leadership, and sportsmanship.

3. Program Operations and Administration

  • Assist with travel arrangements, scheduling, equipment management, and event operations.

  • Maintain accurate records and program documentation.

  • Coordinate camps, clinics, community engagement activities, and special events.

  • Assist with fundraising and alumni relations efforts.

  • Support game-day and tournament management responsibilities.

4. Compliance and Academic Support

  • Ensure compliance with all institutional, conference, and governing association rules and regulations.

  • Monitor academic performance and provide support resources for student-athletes.

  • Promote a culture of integrity, accountability, and academic achievement.

  • Participate in department meetings, professional development opportunities, and other assigned duties.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

  • Collegiate wrestling experience and/or coaching experience.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to recruit and mentor student-athletes from diverse backgrounds.

  • Valid Drivers License is a requirement and a MVR needs to be conducted up hiring

  • This position requires frequent interaction with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, alumni, and community members. The Assistant Coach must maintain a positive and professional demeanor while representing the institution and its athletics program.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Previous collegiate coaching or recruiting experience.

  • Knowledge of women's wrestling rules, regulations, and best practices.

  • Experience with strength and conditioning programming.

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire.

Working Conditions:

Normal office environment. Ability to travel and work evenings, weekends, and extended hours during the competitive season are required.
