Job Description Summary

Enterprise Community Loan Fund (ECLF) is a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and a member of the Enterprise Family of Companies. Enterprise is a national nonprofit that exists to make a good home possible for millions of families without one.
The Assistant Controller is a hands-on individual contributor responsible for the end-to-end accounting and financial management of off-balance sheet funds and management of activities associated with these initiatives. This position is responsible for all fund-level accounting, reporting, budgeting/forecasting and liquidity management activities, operating with a high degree of autonomy under the oversight of the Senior Director, Creative Capital.
In addition to working closely with internal operations team members within ECLF, this role interfaces regularly with investors, auditors, and other third parties, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with debt agreements, and effective financial management of fund structures. This position oversees all the loan servicing operations and creates monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting. The position suggests opportunities to improve operational efficiency, including additional automation. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, effective member of the Finance team. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced environment.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Fund Management & Close

  • Maintain full ownership of accounting for all off-balance sheet loan funds, including recording daily and monthly transactions (cash, accruals, intercompany, etc.), as well as performing monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial records in accordance with GAAP
  • Monitor cash positions across various bank accounts and funding needs for operations and lending
  • Support optimization of capital deployment and liquidity planning

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and deliver monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages that include financial statements, variance analysis vs budget and prior periods, supporting schedules and reconciliations
  • Develop clear, actionable insights on fund performance, drivers, and risks
  • With assistance from Senior Director, produce specialized reporting for internal stakeholders, Board materials, and external parties

Investor, Auditor & Stakeholder Interface

  • Serve as a primary finance contact for investors, capital providers, external auditors, as well as internal teams (Capital Management, Asset Management, and Finance)
  • Working with Capital Management on executing debt draws and repayments
  • Prepare audit schedules, respond to inquiries, and support annual audit and tax processes
  • Deliver accurate and timely financial information to meet external stakeholder requirements (including debt covenants)

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Coordinate the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes for all assigned funds
  • Partner with business leads to develop assumptions and scenario analyses
  • Continuously monitor actuals vs. forecast and update/communicate projections accordingly
  • Participate in the design, modeling, and closing, of new potential off balance sheet initiatives

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support and enhance loan servicing and accounting systems, including identifying and implementing process improvements and automation (work directly on new Loan Servicing System implementation)
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of finance operations and reporting
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives related to fund management and financial strategy
  • Maintain strong internal controls and up-to-date documentation of processes and procedures

Qualifications and Skills:

General:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent is required, CPA is a plus.
  • 5-7 years accounting experience is required, some public accounting experience is a plus.
  • Must be highly motivated, able to work independently and possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must possess strong financial, analytical, organizational, and quantitative skills, and ability to coordinate complex activities, prioritize conflicting demands and meet deadlines.
  • Must demonstrate strong ethics and professionalism in interpersonal relations and work as an effective team member.

Specific:

  • Strong automation skills, including proficiency in Microsoft products and accounting applications, expertise in loan servicing software a plus.
  • Experience with accounting systems required, experience with Workday and/or Adaptive is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and in team environments.

Enterprise offers a comprehensive total rewards package for you and your family. The pay range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000. The salary range represents the low and high end of what may be paid for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the pay range, and compensation decisions may be influenced by a variety of factors, including skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
