Job description

Serves as the point of contact for a specific area of expertise. Provides knowledge and experience of subject matters. Assists with ensuring day to day operations, policies, procedures, and guidelines are followed in particular areas.The University of Memphis is a leading, student-centered, urban public R1 research institution. Located in Memphis, Tennessee, on 1,160 acres.   • Associate degree in relevant area

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Plans and performs state required quarterly and annual inspections and testing /repairs on all fire, sprinkler and suppression systems. Maintains up to date and accurate paperwork on all campuses. 
  • Serves as primary point of contact for state and city fire on fire and sprinkler systems. Liaisons with contractors and vendors to allow access to property for repairs and upgrades. Conduct standpipe flow tests and fire pump churn testing. Coordinate fire hydrant flushing and testing. 
  • Troubleshoot, implements and maintains new systems to support remote monitoring infrastructure.
  • Oversees implementation of networked fire alarm monitoring system. Monitors daily police and fire alarm reports and identify required preventative maintenance on equipment flagged for service to ensure proper systems operations. Supervises the operation of the fire/sprinkler systems on campus and ensure current statuses of system are communicated to the effected parties. Maintains proper application of the campus hot work and impairment permits.. 
  • Consults with planning department/contractors in planning sessions on upgrades and new building construction. Consults with senior management on day-to-day systems operations and deficiencies and assist in planning and execution of strategies to make systems whole. 
  • Assists in correction of fire safety deficiencies. Participates in department outreach efforts. Assists Police and Unit 20 Technicians on after-hours emergencies. Assist and/or repair and maintain computer based access control hardware, door openers, proximity readers, and remote devices, as well as alarm systems, surveillance equipment, panic alarms, and other security devices. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
