Job description

POSITION: NYFF Publicity Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Marketing & Communications

LOCATIONS: New York, New York

TERM: Full-Time; Seasonal (9 Weeks): 8/10/2026 - 10/9/2026*

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Publicity and Communications

RATE: $23/hour, with overtime after 40 hours of work in a week

*This is a hybrid position (3 days a week in office) until August 24. Following this date,

attendance in the office and on site for events will be required (5-7 days per week)


JOB OVERVIEW


The NYFF Publicity Assistant will provide key support to the Publicity and Communications team by tracking and organizing press garnered from the festival, staffing photo calls, assisting with red carpet logistics, acting as a public-facing representative, and providing administrative support. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment while remaining positive and poised.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Respond to requests for materials and/or information from the media regarding NYFF64.

  • Support PR team in all aspects of red carpet screenings including working on site at premieres, preparing and editing materials such as tip sheets, photo captions, and face sheets.

  • Staff photo calls on-site for talent, partnership, and sponsored events at NYFF64 venues, as well as update, organize and file all photographs daily.

  • Coordinate with external PR and film teams on Press & Industry screening inquiries and provide on-site support, including checking in press at select screenings.

  • Assist P&I Coordinator by managing special press ticket requests, tracking approvals with the department manager, and coordinating ticket handoff to the ticketing manager.

  • Compile list of external PR reps for films and distribute accredited press lists to film teams.

  • Under the guidance of the Publicity team, pitch media for coverage as directed.

  • Manage photo/asset retrieval and archiving—receiving from photographers, downloading, digitally filing and uploading to FLC internal storage, and notifying team members of their availability for use on the NYFF site/socials


EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • 1+ years experience in film/entertainment publicity, experience in a film festival environment is a plus.

  • Strong, effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Time management and project management skills are crucial.

  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently but with open communication.

  • Ability to handle high-energy situations with confidence, patience, poise, and discretion.

  • At times, be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong understanding of the current media landscape and a familiarity with social media

  • Knowledge of film and the New York Film Festival a plus.

  • G-Suite, Critical Mention, Word/Excel, Eventival a plus.
