Telecommunications Technician (Data Center)

Location: Greater Fort Wayne, IN

Duration: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire Opportunity

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM

Hours: Mandatory 50-Hour Work Week

About the Opportunity

TEKsystems is seeking motivated Telecommunications Technicians to support large-scale commercial data center construction projects in the Greater Fort Wayne area. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with low voltage, structured cabling, or telecommunications experience who are looking to grow their career in a fast-paced data center environment.

Technicians will play a hands-on role in the installation and deployment of network and telecommunications infrastructure, including structured cabling, server cabinets, cable pathways, and fiber optic systems. Candidates must be comfortable performing physically demanding work, working from ladders and lifts, and contributing to a team-oriented environment.


Responsibilities
  • Pull, route, dress, and secure copper and fiber optic cabling throughout commercial data centers.
  • Assist with the installation of structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic infrastructure.
  • Build, assemble, and install server racks and cabinets.
  • Install cable trays, ladder racks, J-hooks, and other cable support systems.
  • Perform cable terminations, punch-downs, labeling, and basic testing.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas while following project specifications.
  • Read and interpret basic floor plans, layouts, and installation documentation.
  • Utilize hand tools and telecom installation tools safely and effectively.
  • Work from ladders, lifts, and elevated work platforms as required.
  • Follow all OSHA, site-specific, and company safety standards.
  • Collaborate with team leads and fellow technicians to complete projects on schedule.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 6 months of commercial low voltage, telecommunications, structured cabling, or data center experience.
  • Experience pulling and routing low-voltage cable in commercial environments.
  • Knowledge and safe use of basic telecom hand tools.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing ladders, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Must be willing to obtain:
    • OSHA 10 Certification
    • Lift/Scissor Lift Certification

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in data center environments.
  • Experience with cable terminations and punch-downs.
  • Fiber optic installation experience.
  • Knowledge of structured cabling standards and best practices.
  • OSP (Outside Plant) telecommunications experience.
  • Experience assembling server cabinets or rack-and-stack projects.
  • Familiarity with AC power, wiring, and telecommunications infrastructure.
