Position Summary

The Expeditor is focused on ensuring that new construction requests in Customer Design and Delivery that escalate or require expedited services are efficiently and expertly addressed, remediated and evaluated for organizational improvement. The role also applies a high level of proficiency and expertise when completing complex design projects that exceed the competencies of the Design Coordinator. This position provides CPS Energy (CPSE) with the best opportunity for successful project design and delivery by facilitating customer alignment with CPSE requirements in the pre-design meeting with essential CPSE project resources. The Expeditor is an important skill development resource for the Designer Assistant and Design Coordinator, providing insight and instruction for how to address complex design projects, providing design solution options for unconventional project conditions, and fielding questions concerning design resource assignments. This role provides cross-departmental coordination for expedited design requests and service installations, leveraging best practices for de-escalation, soft-skill application, and problem resolution to preserve a positive customer experience. The Expeditor is a knowledge resource to the design process to mitigate competency-based project delays. The position is focused on work assignments and project durations as the Expeditor ensures the appropriate CPSE and contract resource is assigned by fielding Designer Assistant and Design Coordinator inquiries related to project complexity, application attachment details and nuances. An important role of the Expeditor is the active team-focused engagement, both in knowledge sharing and project participation that improves Customer Design and Delivery performance and overall process efficiencies. Specific work varies by area.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Actively guides Design Coordinator and Designer Assistant skill development through mentoring, knowledge sharing, advising on pre-construction meeting preparations, resource management and questions concerning complex application/design scenarios and best practice for achieving timeliness and quality goals.
  • Responds to expedite/escalations following a systematic review of details and CPS Energy standards, to provide clear rationale for decisions/actions taken to resolve customer requests, while elevating concerns to leadership when appropriate.
  • Manages daily work volumes proactively, without supervision, ensuring the customer experience is prioritized in task management for inbound work and work assigned/routed for approval.
  • Interacts with customers using best practices for de-escalating difficult interactions, adapting interpersonal skills based on customer cues and project circumstances, conveying respect, while explaining project requirements and/or constraints in an understandable way.
  • Coordinates across teams, internal leadership and external agencies to resolve project delays and prevent expedites/escalations.
  • Prioritizes and communicates project goals, timelines and milestones in an organized manner to effectively de-escalate difficult customer interactions, mitigate escalations and drive timely project delivery to include stakeholder engagement as needed.
  • Coordinates and designs the installation of overhead line extensions, underground electric line extensions, upgrades, remodels, and gas main extensions for residential services, residential developments, commercial services, and large commercial services, to include civic improvement projects in the downtown network system.
  • Conducts field surveying and job sketches for design and installation, including staking pole locations, locating buried utilities, remediating project site encroachments, while providing insights for design solutions to customers and Design Coordinators.
  • Creates accurate Contributions in Aid of Construction (CIAC) invoicing for customer projects and non-design cost estimates for customer requests, sharing knowledge of mathematical applications in CPS Energy systems with Design Coordinators to develop competencies that represent the best interests of customer and company.
  • Promotes operational excellence and transparency through up-to-date job status maintenance, accurate time and resource allocations, while promoting the same when supporting design resources.
  • Pursues ongoing technical and specialize skill development through learning opportunities that broaden knowledge of design solutions and keep abreast of changing regulatory and process requirements.
  • Communicates project goals, timelines and milestones in the pre-design meeting and publishing meeting minutes to ensure customers are clear on what is needed to accomplish project goals and understands the interdependencies and potential constraints that might exist, as well as the best opportunities to mitigate them.
  • Respects and follows safety policies and regulations; scans work environment (office/field) for items/issues that may pose a safety risk.
  • Encourages others to utilize safe and healthy work practices.
  • Performs other project and activities as assigned.


Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Demonstrated subject matter expert in, and have demonstrated application of, predesign, design, and construction standards and applicable code requirements as required within design area. Exceptional knowledge and demonstrated application of the work order process, from initiate to close. Exceptional knowledge and demonstrated application of all business-related software such as Designer/Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Work Management Information System (WMIS), and Customer Information System (SAP), etc. Exceptional knowledge and demonstrated application of safety practices and procedures. Demonstrated outstanding performance in coordinating and designing assigned work through productivity, timely job closure, GIS model quality, customer feedback/satisfaction, and timely closure of work orders. Ability to meet goals and objectives with minimal direct supervision. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills for interaction with all levels of personnel. Ability to work in a variety of locations such as the field, construction centers and the main office. Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling. Ability to multi-task various critical work assignments in a fast-paced environment in a professional manner. Demonstrated ability to forge strong relationships across levels and organizational lines of business. Effective interpersonal and customer service skills. May provide work direction and assist less experienced designers. Leads projects that deal with content that is substantially complex with diverse issues. Demonstrated ability to coordinate the preparation of high-quality job sketches. Decisions may have impact on timeline, cost, safety and reliability. Preferred Qualifications
