Job description

Sterner Hydraulics, owned and operated by DD Hurst/ PowerPro Equipment, is looking for a proficient Lathe Operator to contribute their experience or knowledge of hydraulic cylinder repair to our Quakertown, PA location! The ideal candidate will have a strong background in repair of hydraulic cylinders. The successful candidate will be able to troubleshoot problems quickly and efficiently, and have the ability to measure and evaluate tolerances based upon required specifications.

Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical, technical and mathematical aptitude.
  • Minimum 1 year(s) of related experience and/or training of manual lathe operation.
  • Ability to understand and provide for the customer needs.
  • Understanding of how to operate shop tools and equipment as needed.
  • Positive attitude, exuding courtesy and helpfulness.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds.

Experience:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Technical degree preferred
  • Demonstrated on-the-job experience

Position Responsibilities:

General Duties:

  • Performs CNC and manual Lathe operations, setting up for long and short runs of parts.
  • Center drills and rough turn specimens out of odd-shaped configurations.
  • Operates multiple machines during a normal workday.
  • Follows all applicable and required specifications and procedures, ensuring accuracy and compliance to machining requirements.
  • Maintains traceability of materials and parts during operations.
  • Ensures shop equipment and instruments are functioning properly and in calibration prior to performing any work; Informs appropriate personnel whenever equipment is found to be out of calibration or in need of repair.
  • Troubleshoot issues, taking appropriate corrective action within established guidelines.
  • Monitors scheduled completion dates and times to ensure that established schedules are met. Notifies supervisor whenever the schedule might not be met.
  • Assists with the disposal of scrap metals turnings from within the department.
  • Clearly explain (if called upon) to the customer’s satisfaction the diagnosis and repair of the machine in question
  • Continually seek both technical and product training when available
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, improve and promote quality, and monitor own work to ensure quality
  • Work with integrity, always upholding company values.
  • Perform related responsibilities/accountabilities as required or directed
  • Assist customers when necessary

Daily Duties:

  • Observe all safety and security procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly
  • Perform repairs within the time parameters as established by flat rate time or billed time with proper diagnosis
  • Treat management and other employees with respect and contribute to building a positive team spirit
  • Follow instructions and promptly respond to management direction
  • Maintain an orderly and clean work area and assist with cleanliness in shop
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with employees, vendors, and customers
  • Respond promptly to customer needs and manage difficult customer situations
  • Completely fill out and turn in all work orders
