Job description

The Estimator is an advanced role responsible for developing estimates and estimating data for more complex BWCC construction projects. This individual utilizes extensive knowledge of large industrial construction projects to provide timely and accurate estimates of construction costs. This person is very familiar with power plant equipment and mechanical estimating and may assist in the training and development of less experienced Estimators.

  • Capable of completing estimates for large and complex construction projects with minimal oversite or supervision.

  • Estimates contract change orders as they arise prior to mobilization and as required during the project. Completes final as-sold cost estimate.

  • Reviews RFQ drawings in detail and performs accurate quantity takeoffs of boiler components, ductwork, piping and structural steel.

  • Updates and supports the maintenance of estimating data to be utilized in BWCC construction estimates.

  • Review estimates for scope and data application accuracy. May prepare special estimates.

  • Read specifications to ensure costs are adequately covered. Suggests clarifications and reviews final proposal clarifications.

  • Capable of analyzing projects and suggesting the appropriate supervision and indirect labor required. Works with Operations to finalize these allowances.

  • Instruct estimating personnel in the proper use of the estimating data. Conduct evaluations to review and validate estimating data. 

  • Prepare estimating procedures for products not covered by estimating data or special estimates for these products.

  • Prepare material and subcontract RFQ packages and reviews and analyzes subcontract and material quotes.  Works with Operations and Proposal Management to finalize allowances to be included in the final estimate.

  • May prepare various statistical reports that analyze manhour returns, suggests updates to the estimating book rates if required.

  • Train, direct, guide, and serve as a mentor for less experienced estimators.

  • Assist in the preparation and updating of computer estimating programs.

  • Utilize extensive knowledge of estimating and BWCC construction projects to produce timely and quality results that support organizational goals

  • Perform trend analysis, reviews cost data and estimate information. Determine and estimates project cash flow.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned

  • Minimum Bachelor's of Science

  • 8 years' experience in Estimating, or equivalent experience in Industrial or Commercial construction, Technical Design, Engineering, Purchasing and/or related functions.

  • Extensive knowledge of industrial construction projects

  • Knowledge of construction estimating and proposals

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to read drawings

  • Familiar with Microsoft Excel and Office Suite

  • A working knowledge of power plant and mechanical equipment.
