The position requires a high degree of independence, a proactive 'self-starter' mindset, and the ability to provide technical mentorship to junior staff and production teams.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer the full lifecycle of environmental permits (Air Quality, NPDES, Water Rights, US Army Corps, Wetlands, and Endangered Species).
  • Lead the development and implementation of critical environmental plans, including SWPPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans) and SPCC (Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure).
  • Manage the timely submission of all regulatory reports, including Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs) and annual emissions inventories.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with local, state, and federal regulators; represent the company at public hearings and permit actions.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and recordkeeping reviews to identify potential risks.
  • Provide hands-on guidance to Plant Managers and Production staff on best practices for water discharge, oil storage, and waste management.
  • Serve as a technical lead for environmental incidents, ensuring proper reporting, remediation, and root-cause analysis.
  • Assist in property acquisitions and divestitures by managing Phase I/II environmental investigations and overseeing remediation contractors.
  • Coordinate with land management teams to ensure mining reclamation activities meet permit requirements and long-term sustainability goals.
  • Identify and implement innovative engineering solutions to improve air/water quality and reduce resource consumption.
  • Develop and deliver environmental training programs for site personnel to foster a culture of shared responsibility.
