The Senior Project Manager (SPM) for EMC Mechanical is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of complex mechanical projects including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and other mechanical systems. The SPM is the key driver of project success, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires leadership skills, extensive technical knowledge, and the ability to manage teams, clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders effectively.

What You'll Do:
  • Project planning & Coordination
    • Lead the development of comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, and resources for mechanical construction projects.
    • Coordinate with internal teams, clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to align on project goals and deliverables.
    • Review and approve project schedules, procurement plans, and construction documents.
    • Manage project startup, ensuring all resources (staff, equipment, materials) are allocated appropriately and project scope is well understood.
  • Project Execution & Management
    • Oversee day-to-day management of the project ensuring adherence to the timeline, budget, and quality standards.
    • Coordinate and monitor mechanical system installations (HVAC, plumbing, piping, etc.) and ensure compliance with project specifications and local building codes.
    • Resolve technical issues, address project challenges, and implement solutions in a timely manner.
    • Track and report on project progress, adjusting as necessary to ensure the project stays on course.
  • Financial Management
    • Develop, manage, and control the project budget, ensuring that costs are tracked and that project financial goals are met.
    • Review and approve purchase orders, invoices, and change orders, ensuring accuracy and alignment with contract terms.
    • Identify and manage project risks to avoid cost overruns and delays.
    • Prepare and submit regular financial reports to management, detailing project status and financial performance.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Lead and mentor a team of Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and field personnel, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
    • Manage internal resources and external subcontractors to ensure timely and quality execution of the project.
    • Conduct regular site meetings, safety meetings, and project reviews to track progress, communicate updates, and address issues.
    • Provide performance feedback and professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Client & Stakeholder Management
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring customer satisfaction through consistent communication and the successful delivery of projects.
    • Conduct regular meetings with clients and stakeholders to review progress, provide updates, and discuss any changes or challenges.
    • Manage change orders, scope adjustments, and project modifications, ensuring proper documentation and client approvals.
  • Quality & Safety Oversight
    • Ensure that all mechanical work is completed according to the highest quality standards and in compliance with all safety protocols and regulations.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of quality control measures to ensure work meets or exceeds industry standards.
    • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure safe work practices, compliance with regulations, and high-quality execution.
  • Project Close-Out & Documentation
    • Oversee project close-out procedures, including final inspections, testing, commissioning, and the preparation of as-built documentation.
    • Ensure that all project-related documents, including contracts, change orders, submittals, and project schedules, are accurately filed and accessible.
    • Conduct post-project reviews to assess performance, gather lessons learned, and identify areas for improvement.

What You'll Bring:
  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in mechanical construction, with at least 5 years in a Project Management role.
    • Strong background in mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, piping, fire protection, etc.) and construction management.
    • Proven success managing large, complex mechanical projects, including multi-million dollar budgets.
  • Skills & Abilities
    • Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to mentor and motivate project teams.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
    • In-depth knowledge of project management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
    • Strong financial management skills including budget tracking, cost control, and contract administration.
    • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
  • Certifications (Preferred)
    • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.
    • LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
    • OSHA 30-hour or other safety-related certifications.
  • Driving Requirements
    • Must have a valid Virginia driver's license.
    • Must have positive points on state driving record.
    • Must be at least 21 years of age unless company approval is granted.
    • Must not have had a DUI, DWI, or reckless driving conviction in the last five years.
    • All driving records are run as part of our pre-employment process and reviewed at the discretion of the Safety Team.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Must be able to crawl, kneel, squat, and climb.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, unassisted.
    • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to visit and walk through construction sites regularly, which may involve climbing ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and working in various environmental conditions.
    • Ability to lift or move materials as necessary, with the use of appropriate safety equipment.
  • Work Environment
    • Primarily office-based, with regular visits to job sites to oversee project progress and resolve on-site issues.
    • Fast-paced and deadline-driven environment, with occasional long hours required to meet project milestones.
