Assistant Emc Engineer information

What are some common challenges faced by Assistant EMC Engineers during product testing and how can they be managed?

Assistant EMC Engineers often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting unexpected electromagnetic interference, managing tight project timelines, and adapting test setups for various product types. These challenges can be managed by maintaining effective communication with design and development teams, following standardized testing procedures, and staying up-to-date on regulatory requirements. Developing strong problem-solving skills and being proactive in documenting test results also help ensure smoother testing processes and compliance with EMC standards.

What is the difference between Assistant Emc Engineer vs Test Engineer?

AspectAssistant Emc EngineerTest Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's in Electrical/Electronics EngineeringBachelor's in Electrical, Electronics, or related field
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, EMC testing facilitiesTesting labs, product development environments
Industry UsageElectronics, telecommunications, automotiveElectronics, software, hardware testing
Primary FocusEMC compliance, interference mitigationProduct testing, quality assurance

The Assistant Emc Engineer primarily focuses on EMC compliance and interference mitigation, supporting testing and design. In contrast, the Test Engineer handles broader product testing and quality assurance. Both roles require similar educational backgrounds and often work in related environments within electronics industries, but their core responsibilities differ in scope and specialization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Assistant EMC Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Assistant EMC Engineer, you need a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with EMC test equipment, simulation software (like CST or Ansys), and hands-on experience with compliance testing are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you interpret results and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. These competencies are crucial for ensuring electronic products meet regulatory standards and function reliably in complex environments.

What are Assistant EMC Engineers?

Assistant EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Engineers are entry-level professionals who support senior engineers in testing, analyzing, and resolving electromagnetic interference issues in electronic devices or systems. They help ensure products meet regulatory standards for electromagnetic emissions and immunity, often by setting up and conducting laboratory tests, collecting data, and preparing technical reports. Assistant EMC Engineers typically work under supervision, gaining hands-on experience with specialized testing equipment and industry compliance requirements. Their work is essential in industries such as automotive, telecommunications, and consumer electronics to ensure devices function safely and reliably without causing or suffering from electromagnetic disturbances.

Job description

Description

PADT is seeking an engineer with a strong background in computational electromagnetics and high-frequency simulation to support customers using Ansys HFSS and related tools. This role is not focused on physical antenna fabrication or test-lab execution. Instead, it centers on solving advanced EM problems through simulation, modeling, and analysis, and guiding customers in developing accurate, efficient, and multiphysics-aware workflows.

You will collaborate with designers, researchers, and product development teams across industries such as wireless, aerospace, automotive, medical, and communications-helping them understand EM behavior, optimize product designs, and integrate simulation-driven decisions into their development process. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

Essential Functions

  • Providing on-going technical support to PADT customers working with Ansys HFSS and related high-frequency simulation tools
  • Training and mentoring, from existing or custom-written material, customers and prospects on software applications or use cases
  • Conducting in-person and virtual meetings with customers
  • Assisting in the development and generation of formal sales proposals to ensure technical accuracy
  • Coordinate and assist the software sales team in the delivery of technical content such as demonstrations, workflow definitions, defining success criteria, and estimating value/ROI of software
  • Maintaining customer relationships in the form of updating presentations, periodic meetings, or account reviews with existing stakeholders
  • Providing expert advice on areas of expertise to customers and colleagues
  • Developing technical marketing material for ANSYS including tutorials, blog postings, and videos
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Master of Science, higher Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of:
  •      High-frequency electromagnetic theory
  •      Antenna theory (conceptual + simulation focused, not fabrication)
  •      Wave propagation, transmission lines, EM boundary conditions, materials
  • Awareness of simulation connectivity to other physics/design aspects (e.g. thermal, reliability, NVH, optical effects)
  • Minimum of 2 Years of experience using Ansys HFSS for antenna applications
  • Ability to work effectively in both independent and diverse team environments
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to develop practical engineering solutions for difficult problems
  • Exceptional customer service aptitude, as well as communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools to include PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • Available for occasional travel (about 30%)

Preferred:

  • 3.0 GPA or higher - MS or PhD degree involving high frequency simulation a plus
  • Experience in antenna design with Ansys tools including HFSS and Optimetrics or other competitors
  • Experience in antenna testing is beneficial
  • Experience with transmission theory, EMI/EMC concerns, board level SI or PI analysis
  • Prior experience in physical testing/validation/manufacturing a plus
  • Prior training/teaching experience is a plus
  • Experience with non-Ansys high frequency electromagnetics tools is beneficial
  • Familiarity with common programming languages (C, C++, Python, etc.)

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, for applicants who are not asylees, refugees, lawful permanent residents or U.S. Citizens (i.e., not a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), otherwise known as a U.S. Person), final offers will be contingent on the ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
