Job description

Job Summary:
The Obstetrics (OB) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating and delivering comprehensive nursing care to antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients, as well as newborns. This role involves patient assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation to ensure optimal maternal and neonatal outcomes. The OB RN actively participates in patient and family education while working collaboratively with physicians, ancillary staff, and interdisciplinary teams to uphold professional nursing standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct nursing care for antepartum, laboring, postpartum, and newborn patients, including monitoring maternal and fetal well-being, managing labor progression, and assisting with deliveries.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on patient conditions, physician directives, and best practices.
  • Educate patients and families on labor and delivery processes, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and discharge instructions.
  • Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to ensure safe, high-quality, and evidence-based patient care.
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, and therapeutic treatments while closely monitoring patient responses.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and patient progress.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, infection control protocols, and nursing best practices to ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Assist in the orientation and mentorship of new staff members, contributing to a positive and knowledgeable team environment.
  • Maintain required certifications and participate in ongoing training and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:
  • Licensure: Active NYS RN license.
  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal
  • Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.
  • Experience: Prior obstetrics nursing experience preferred.
