REMOTE: Instructional Designer - Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)

Job Summary
The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing engaging learning experiences that support employee development, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence across AIS and its operating companies. This role partners closely with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE), Operations, Human Resources, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create high-quality training solutions focused on safety, technical skills, leadership development, and compliance. The ideal candidate has experience developing adult learning programs within construction, industrial, manufacturing, or environmental services and can translate complex technical content into effective, learner-centered training.
Your Impact:
  • Conduct training needs assessments to identify knowledge gaps and performance improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with HSE leaders, Operations, HR, and Subject Matter Experts to define learning objectives and instructional outcomes.
  • Design and develop instructor-led training, eLearning courses, videos, job aids, facilitator guides, assessments, simulations, and blended learning solutions.
  • Capture field operations and safety procedures through video and multimedia and transform them into engaging instructional content.
  • Apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies (ADDIE, SAM, Bloom's Taxonomy) to create effective learning experiences.
  • Develop standardized onboarding, compliance, technical, and safety training programs across multiple operating companies.
  • Ensure all learning materials align with OSHA, EPA, DOT, MSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Create assessments and evaluation tools to measure learner comprehension and training effectiveness.
  • Manage learning content within the Learning Management System (LMS) and maintain version control of all instructional materials.
  • Incorporate multimedia, interactive learning technologies, and emerging instructional tools to improve learner engagement.
  • Manage multiple instructional design projects simultaneously while meeting established timelines and deliverables.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through learner feedback, assessments, and performance metrics, making continuous improvements as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of instructional design processes, project status, and learning assets.
  • Stay current with instructional design trends, learning technologies, and adult education best practices.
  • Support the continuous improvement of ASRC Industrial's safety culture through innovative learning solutions.

Here's What You'll Need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Adult Education, Learning & Development, Curriculum Design, or a related field; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of instructional design experience developing corporate training programs.
  • Experience designing Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE), compliance, or technical training programs.
  • Experience within construction, industrial services, environmental services, manufacturing, or heavy civil industries.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
  • Experience creating instructor-led, virtual, blended, and eLearning training programs.
  • Proficiency with instructional authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Vyond, or similar software.
  • Portfolio of instructional design work samples required.

Ideally You'll Also Have:
  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning & Development, or a related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, MSHA, NFPA, and other safety regulations.
  • Professional certification in Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Adult Education, or Learning & Development.
  • Experience developing video-based learning, microlearning, gamification, and mobile learning solutions.
  • Experience supporting organizations with multiple business units or operating companies.
  • Experience mentoring junior instructional designers or leading instructional design initiatives.
  • Knowledge of learning analytics and data-driven training evaluation methods.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20-25% to operating companies, project sites, and training events.

Salary Range: $75,000 -$85,000 based on experience and qualifications,
