Job Summary
Marina Dockhand is responsible for assisting with daily operations, including mooring, fueling, and customer service. Duties involve maintaining cleanliness, ensuring safety protocols, and providing support to marina guests and colleagues.
Primary Responsibilities & Essential Functions
  • Assist Dockmaster with ensuring that all dockhands are following proper policies and procedures throughout the Marina
  • Ensure dockhands are thoroughly trained in accordance with all marina policies and procedures
  • Assist Dockmaster with compiling and execution of worklists for the marina
  • Ensure dockhands are completing all routine daily tasks
  • Carries out routine cleaning duties that meet established quality standards for all marina related operations; ensures the recognized standards are maintained and that quality, and delivery commitments are met
  • Assists the Dockmasters and other Dockhands in marina related duties such as securing boats to docks, connecting and monitoring utility services (power, water and telephone), black water pump out, waste disposal and facility sanitation
  • Provides the highest level of customer and guest services, expedites any and all requests from vessels including transport of patrons and baggage to and from dockside, delivery of provisions and packages
  • Routinely operates, motor and water vehicles and other various mechanized equipment
  • Provides general security and supports marina and facility security teams in their security related efforts; reports disturbances in dock area to superiors and maintains general vigilance
  • Assists refueling operations when required at the marina refueling facility, ensures safe fueling procedures
  • Provides service to marina and facility guests and carries out routine marina maintenance
  • Complying with instructions or duties as may be reasonably assigned
  • All other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
  • 1-2 years marina experience preferred
  • Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and to communicate with guests about job-related needs
  • Ability to read write and speak, and communicate in basic English preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Detail-oriented and thorough, with the ability to perform consistent work to the highest standards
  • Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of guests
  • Ability to interact with guests in a pleasant and friendly manner
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate in basic English (preferred)
  • Positive attitude with strong communication skills; able to relate well to customers and motivate staff
  • Commercial awareness and an eye for detail in all aspects of work
  • High standards of presentation and accuracy in written work
  • Broad knowledge of marina operations, including boat lifting, handling, and towing, as well as plant and equipment maintenance
  • Familiarity with common marina operational documentation (e.g., agreements, contracts, terms and conditions, rules and regulations) and ability to analyze them
  • Proven skills or willingness to be trained in administration, seamanship, communication, health and safety, plant and equipment maintenance, and marina operations
  • Proficient swimmer
  • Full driving license
  • CPR and First Aid certification (preferred, may obtain after hire)

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally with assistance or tools for heavier items
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, often on wet, uneven, or slippery surfaces while performing tasks
  • Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, or working in awkward positions
  • Manual dexterity required for operating tools, equipment, and handling lines or supplies
  • Ability to push or pull cards, boats, or equipment as required,
  • Adequate vision and hearing for identifying safety hazards, inspections, and effective communications
  • Swimming proficiency required for safety around water
  • Ability to assist in emergency situations, which may involve physically demanding tasks

Working Conditions
  • Work is primarily performed outdoors in various weather conditions, including sunlight, heat, cold, rain, and wind
  • Exposure to wet, slippery, uneven surfaces
  • May work on ladders, scaffolding, floating docks, or boats
  • Occasional exposure to noise, moving equipment, and operational hazards
  • Frequent interaction with tools, equipment, and customer items
  • Employees may be required to respond to emergency situations, including water recues or evacuations
  • Tasks may involve handling hazardous materials with proper safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE)
