Direct Counsel is seeking a Restructuring Associate to join the New York office of a nationally recognized Am Law firm. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with 2–4 years of restructuring and insolvency experience who is looking to work on sophisticated Chapter 11 proceedings, out-of-court restructurings, and cross-border matters alongside a highly regarded restructuring team.

The ideal candidate will have experience representing debtors, creditors, committees, and other stakeholders in complex restructuring matters and will be eager to take on meaningful responsibility from day one.

ResponsibilitiesBankruptcy & Restructuring Matters
  • Represent debtors, secured creditors, ad hoc and statutory committees, asset purchasers, and other stakeholders in restructuring matters
  • Assist with Chapter 11 proceedings and out-of-court restructurings
  • Work on domestic and cross-border insolvency matters
  • Draft and review bankruptcy pleadings, motions, financing documents, restructuring agreements, and transaction documents
  • Analyze complex financial and legal issues affecting distressed companies and stakeholders
Litigation & Case Strategy
  • Conduct legal research and prepare strategic analyses
  • Draft substantive briefs, memoranda, and court filings
  • Assist with depositions, witness preparation, and hearing preparation
  • Support trial preparation and litigation strategy where applicable
  • Participate in negotiations involving restructuring transactions and settlements
Client & Team Collaboration
  • Work directly with clients, financial advisors, investment bankers, and other professionals
  • Collaborate with attorneys across multiple practice groups
  • Manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Assume increasing responsibility for case management and client interaction
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active New York Bar membership in good standing
  • 2–4 years of restructuring, insolvency, or bankruptcy experience
  • Experience representing debtors, creditors, committees, or other stakeholders in Chapter 11 proceedings and restructurings
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
  • Strong academic credentials and demonstrated professional achievement
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with cross-border restructuring matters
  • Deposition experience
  • Trial preparation experience
  • Experience working on complex financial restructurings and distressed transactions
