Job description

Business Restructuring & Insolvency Associate Attorney

Location: New York, New York

Direct Counsel is seeking a Business Restructuring & Insolvency Associate to join the nationally recognized Business Restructuring & Insolvency Practice Group of a premier global law firm in New York. This is an exceptional opportunity for an associate with sophisticated bankruptcy and restructuring experience to work on high-profile Chapter 11 proceedings, complex liability management transactions, and strategic out-of-court restructurings.

The practice is consistently recognized as a leader in the restructuring space and advises clients across a broad spectrum of distressed and special situations matters, including some of the most significant corporate restructurings in recent years.

Responsibilities
  • Represent debtors, creditors, lenders, investors, and other stakeholders in complex restructuring and insolvency matters
  • Work on large-scale Chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructuring transactions
  • Assist with:
    • Restructuring support agreements
    • Debtor-in-possession and exit financing arrangements
    • Asset sales and distressed acquisitions
    • Liability management transactions
    • Plan negotiation and confirmation matters
  • Draft and negotiate restructuring-related agreements and court filings
  • Conduct legal and strategic analysis relating to distressed situations and insolvency matters
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across finance, corporate, litigation, and regulatory practices
  • Manage multiple sophisticated matters with increasing responsibility and client interaction
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
  • 4–6 years of experience in bankruptcy, restructuring, or special situations matters at a leading law firm
  • Significant experience with large, complex Chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings required
  • Strong understanding of restructuring and insolvency principles
  • Experience with transactional restructuring matters, including financing arrangements and liability management transactions
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
  • Strong judgment and ability to manage complex matters in a fast-paced environment
  • Admission to the New York State Bar required
