Job description

Chatham Emergency Services is currently seeking qualified dispatchers for our communications center. Our communication center is the heart and soul of the organization. The candidate must have the ability to deal with high stress emergency situations. We are looking for a great support staff within our communication center to assist Metro 911 system,  EMT's and Paramedics. DUTIESThe candidate must be able to work rotating 12 hour shifts (include days, nights, weekends and holidays)Proficient in data entry in CAD SystemThe ability to work long hours during disasters and evacuationsThe ability to sit for extended periods of timesThe ability to assess emergency situations and may provide preliminary advice and guidanceThe ability to work with the public and private sector through the metro 911 system and private emergency phone callsThe ability to dispatch emergency personnel to scenes as well as provide directions to the emergency scenes all over Chatham CountyQUALIFICATIONSThe candidate must possess the following skills:Experience with multi phone lines and well as radio channels.Ability to use sound judgment in dispatching personnel and equipment.The ability to think clearly and act calmly in stressful emergency situations.Has great customer service skills internally and externallyThe ability to multitasks with several pieces of equipment such as head sets w/telephone, radios & computer equipmentSitting for long periods of time (12 hour shifts)Type at least 25-30 WPMDisburse accurate and appropriate information to responding unitsSpeak clear and conciseMaintain a Positive AttitudeBilingual English and Spanish (Preferred)Ability to pass International Academies of Emergency Dispatch-Emergnecy Medical Dispatch (Certification Examination) Ability to successfully pass pre-employment exam, background checks, pre-employment physical and drug testFor all non-English speaking candidates, we can assist you per written request. During this time, we will provide a written English comprehension examination that test your ability to read and understand English.
