LITIGATION LEGAL ASSISTANT, INSURANCE DEFENSE
As a Legal Assistant for our Insurance Defense practice, you work hand-in-hand with our attorneys to provide daily administrative support by composing discovery letters and pleadings, filing motions and organizing exhibits, and opening, maintaining, and organizing client files. Whether it's monitoring attorneys' calendars and answering client calls with professional telephone etiquette, or scheduling Zoom meetings, your accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail ensure that things are done right the first time.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide administrative and litigation support to attorneys handling insurance defense matters
  • Prepare, revise, proofread, and finalize legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, motions, and discovery materials
  • File documents electronically in state and federal courts
  • Manage attorney calendars, court deadlines, depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial schedules
  • Coordinate the service of pleadings and discovery documents
  • Organize, maintain, and update physical and electronic case files
  • Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, experts, vendors, and insurance carriers through emails or phone calls.
  • Assist with the preparation of trial binders, exhibits, subpoenas, and hearing materials
  • Review incoming emails, mail, and filings, and calendar all applicable deadlines
  • Support attorneys with document production, medical records, and litigation-related materials

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A LEGAL ASSISTANT
  • At least 2 years of litigation legal assistant experience working for a law firm
  • Insurance Defense strongly preferred
  • Experience with state court filings and court procedures for NY and NJ courts.
  • E-filling experience with NYSCEF and/or JEDS
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage time
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Familiar with document management systems (NetDocs, or similar).
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • The urgency to provide above-and-beyond customer service and problem-solving
  • Professionalism and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitive information
