Job description

Residential Assistant
Program: Intellectual Disabilities and Mental Health
Reports to: GA Director of IDD Services
Pay: Starting at $16.00/hr.
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Work Location: Lafayette, GA or Trenton, GA
Function:
The Residential Assistant is responsible for assisting in the overall management and operation of community residential facilities for adults with intellectual disabilities.
Qualifications:
The position requires a person twenty-one (21) years of age or older with a high school diploma and a minimum of one (1) years’ experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. College courses in the behavioral sciences may be substituted as per VOASE policy and procedure. The position requires successful completion of all mandatory training to include First Aid/CPR Certification, CPI Certification.
The position requires the ability to work cooperatively with co-workers, providers, families, organizations, related agencies, and others in the community. The position also requires that the individual is able to perform assigned duties with general supervision. The following skills are also preferred: personnel and staff development, counseling skills, time-management skills, demonstrated leadership, advocacy skills, money management skills, record keeping skills, verbal and written communication skills, and computer skills. A demonstrated knowledge base and proficiency as related to support needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities, rights and responsibilities, and household management.
The individual must be able to work a flexible work schedule. The position requires that the individual have a valid Georgia driver’s license and is able to continuously meet requirements of VOA vehicle insurance company.
Principal Activities:
  1. Assists Site Coordinator of IDD Director in identifying and initiating actions to meet the needs and ensure the health and safety of people served.
  2. Helps schedule and/or accompanies individuals to medical appointments as needed.
  3. Ensures weekly medication inventories are performed.
  4. Monitors programs and people’s needs, and purchases needed items within budget requirements.
  5. Coordinates maintenance requests.
  6. Provides input in identifying personal preferences and personal goals for individuals served.
  7. Completes duties to ensure the health and safety of persons served.
  8. Monitors Individual Support Plans and completes documentation of supports when needed. Ensures staff are documenting appropriately.
  9. Coordinates and/or ensures leisure and recreational activities in the home and community.
  10. Participates in interviewing process for new direct support staff.
  11. Assists in training new direct support staff.
  12. Provides direct care support (at least 2 shifts per week) and fill-in as needed.
  13. Reports any suspicion of abuse, neglect, mistreatment, and exploitation and cooperates fully in investigation.
  14. Completes all required documentation in compliance with VOA and funding source requirements.
  15. Completes basic household tasks to maintain the home in an environment that meets the approval of the individuals residing in the home as well as VOA health and safety requirements and DBHDD/HFR certification standards.
  16. Completes basic vehicle tasks to ensure that vehicle meets VOA health and safety requirements, and DOT requirements.
  17. Ensures regular inspections of house and vehicles and submits any needed maintenance requests.
  18. Attends all required training courses and additional training as recommended by supervisor.
  19. Meets minimum staff development/training requirements in compliance with VOA standards and funding agency requirements.
