Job description

MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE May be eligible for sign-on bonus: Local applicants - up to $2,500 Out of area/Relocating - up to $7,500 MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school plus a minimum of six (6) years of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations. An Associate degree or coursework in wastewater technology, environmental science, or a related field is preferred. Three (3) years of supervisory experience required.

Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and have and maintain an acceptable, safe driving record. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possess and maintain a Class A certification as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator from the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Out of State candidates applying for reciprocity of the required license may be considered for this position.

EMERGENCY DECLARATION STATUS Code 1: Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared emergency and/or declared emergency. On an incident-by-incident basis, the employee's Department Head will make the determination as to who will be required to work. GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Under limited supervision, performs responsible administrative, supervisory, and technical work directing the operations of the wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities at the North Regional Utilities Campus for the City.

Work involves planning and supervising the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the plant and associated facilities; directing an industrial waste sampling and analysis program; and supervising staff engaged in various aspects of plant/equipment operation, maintenance, waste sampling, and laboratory analysis. Reports to the Assistant Utilities Director (Plants and Maintenance Operations). SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Operates and maintains the City's North Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant and associated facilities in accordance with policies, procedures and regulations of the U.S

Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Florida Department of Environmental Regulation; develops and establishes operational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with laws and regulations. Plans, assigns, directs and supervises, through direct or delegated supervision, the work of plant personnel engaged in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant and facilities; directs performance of required tests and analyses, and coordinates plant operations with the results of such tests; directs and is responsible for laboratory operations. Administers or makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting direct subordinates, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, granting leave, appraising and disciplining, etc., submitting such records and reports as required by Utilities management; reviews job performance evaluations of personnel as submitted by subordinate program supervisors

Reviews or prepares plant operational reports and records, including state and federal reports, and submits to supervisor and regulatory agencies as required; confers with regulatory authorities and City and Brevard County officials, as necessary, to advise of plant operational changes and adjustments; maintains current operating permits, submitting records and reports to regulatory authorities, as required. Supervises the routine maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery, and cleaning and maintenance of all plant facilities and properties. Conducts simple and in-depth research, as necessary, to determine ability to enhance procedural efficiency, and associated cost estimates; prepares and presents oral and written reports to supervisor and other management personnel as requested or otherwise deemed appropriate.

Oversees administration of plant operating budgets, ensuring proper accounting and reporting of expenditures; compiles figures and prepares budget proposals. May be assigned to shift work. May be required to work weekends and holidays.

May be required to respond to after hour calls. Performs the duties of subordinate personnel when necessary. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs other related work as required.
