Job Description

At Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui, we push ourselves every day to always be better and leave the world a better place.  As Assistant Director of Engineering, you will empower the team to achieve exceptional standards while developing preventative maintenance and resource management programs that ensure a safe and welcoming hotel for all colleagues, guests and visitors.

Salary Range: $95,000 - $118,000

What you will be doing:

  • Ensure all physical operations of the Hotel, including refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems are maintained in a neat, clean and safe fashion.
  • Plan, implement and monitor the hotel's Preventative Maintenance Programs to maintain guest rooms, mechanical equipment, outlets, and public areas in appropriate condition.
  • Coordinate renovations and maintenance related capital projects within the framework, budgets and time limits established.
  • Maintain scheduling to complete work with minimal disruption to guest service and maximize productivity.
  • Ensure property-wide compliance with all government regulations pertaining to building code requirements, insurance, loss prevention, health, fire, and life safety programs
  • Lead sustainability initiatives, environmental compliance programs, utility conservation efforts, and sustainability reporting requirements in alignment with brand and ownership objectives.
  • Train, evaluate and promote the growth and development of internal talent by holding ono-on-one meetings and completing performance reviews in accordance with company guidelines
  • Recruit, motivate, coach, and hold Engineering colleagues accountable
  • Prepare and oversee the annual/monthly maintenance budgets and accurate forecasts
  • Prepare purchase orders, including product/service research, purchasing, implementation and tracking.
  • Review ongoing service contracts for contractor performance and competitive pricing.
  • Maintain close and effective working relationships with all other departments, owner representatives and external contractors.

Schedule:  Due to the nature of the hospitality industry, employees are required to work varying schedules, including weekends and holidays, to accommodate the business and demands of the hotel. 

Qualifications
  • General knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, commercial laundry equipment, commercial kitchen equipment
  • 4 years' experience as an Engineering Manager or Assistant Building Manager of a multi-faceted building complex
  • Previous experience as a Chief Engineer or Assistant DOE preferred
  • Degree/diploma/certificate in Engineering or trade certification in Building Management is an asset
  • Strong safety background with OSHA certifications and experience in handling and storage of various chemicals and solvents.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and building plans.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable building codes, fire regulations, health department requirements and environmental regulations.
  • Experience managing preventive maintenance programs, capital projects, and contractor relationships.
  • Experience preparing and managing operating and capital budgets.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience, including recruiting, training, coaching, and developing team members.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other building maintenance technologies.
  • Strong computer and technology skills.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to exceptional guest service and hospitality.
  • Strong problem-solving and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to assess, prioritize, and modify work plans to ensure continuous progress and achievement of results.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a focus on quality, efficiency, and results.
  • Excellent teamwork skills, professional judgment, and a high level of initiative.
