Description of Job Colorado State Archives exists to ensure the preservation of the State's permanent legal records and information and to promote their use by the citizens of Colorado.

They are the legal repository for selected historical and contemporary records and information generated by state and local governments in Colorado. This position is required to work four (4) days a week in the office. This position describes a support level team member for the State Archives research center.

Assists archivists and Research Room Supervisor in the operation of the research center, customer workflows, special projects, and general administrative support for the program. The work includes being the first point of contact for customers via phone, mail, email or in person; collecting customer information and processing payments; photocopying/scanning records and preparing them for delivery; entering cataloging information into databases; overseeing the programs social media accounts; working with archivists on exhibit development; and performing archival processing and inventory. A summary of the duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: Research Center Operations Open and close research center per established procedures.

Track customer research requests using request management software. Provide customer service by email, mail, phone and in person. Collect customer information, inform customers of policies and fees, train customers on public facing scanners, locate records using the database or finding aids, and photocopy or scan records to fulfill customer requests.

Process payments and prepare requests for delivery by mail or email. Provide assistance to the Archives Technician by pulling or refiling records as needed. Provide assistance to the Research Room Supervisor as needed.

Keep public research room and public facing equipment clean and organized. Troubleshoots common hardware and software problems. Archival Projects Inventory physical and digital holdings.

Rehouse records as needed. Able to demonstrate decision making capabilities in processing of collections including weeding, arranging, and describing. Arrange, describe, and incorporate records into a collections management database using professional archival and metadata standards.

Participate in data entry or data cleanup projects in partnership with the Archival Collections Supervisor. Creates social media content and physical exhibits on a routine basis. Class Code & Classification Description: H6H1XX Archivist I Minimum Qualifications: Experience Only: At least four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position OR Education and Experience: A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to at least four (4) years. The exceptional candidate will possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following preferred qualifications: Previous State Service related to the work assigned to the position Excellent customer service skills Experience handling and reproducing archival materials Experience working in an archival repository, library, or related environment Independent self starter and skilled team member Organization and research skills Experience with collections management systems Knowledge of digital preservation challenges, trends and best practices Completion of or progress made towards a MLIS (Masters of Library and Information Science) or MLS (Masters of Library Science) degree from an ALA (American Library Association) accredited school Conditions of Employment: A pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process. Comparative Analysis Process The comparative analysis process for this position may consist of a structured application review, an online assessment and a structured interview.
