Job Brief
Kable Workforce Solutions is hiring an Estimator for our client. This job will provide execute each project estimate and pre-construction support task, while utilizing the best practices and standards to deliver the most favorable outcome while building and maintaining strong relationships with our customer, subcontractors, vendors, internal partners, and the owner.
What’s a Typical Day Like?
  • Proficient in using excel spreadsheets to build estimates, inclusive of transferring data to the spreadsheets from the estimation software, applying labor factors, establishing general conditions, and defining site logistics cost components into the overall cost basis.
  • Perform quantity takeoff of piping and/or plumbing systems.
  • Proficient in structuring the estimate to support the unique requirements of individual project cost breakdowns.
  • Maintain all bid files, electronic and physical, estimate notes and assumptions of project estimates.
  • Define productivity requirements for the uniqueness of each project.
  • Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors for quotes and specification compliance.
  • Effectively communicate the estimate approach to ALL team members, including the team members at the project Kick-Off meeting.
  • Build relationships with Project Management and Operations to enhance integration of best practices into estimates.
  • Negotiate favorable pricing and terms with vendors and subcontractors when required.
  • Assist in negotiation and buy out of hvac and plumbing equipment.
  • Develop thorough knowledge of company estimating software, Autodesk Fabrication ESTmep, estimating spreadsheets, and file structures.
  • Possess skill set to perform estimating process support for plan/spec, design assist, design build and IPD delivery methods.
  • Review proposal front end documents, specifications, drawings and attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
  • Address discrepancies in the bid documents in a timely manner during the bid process via official RFI, phone call or email to clear up potential scope related issues.
  • Develop and provide complete, accurate and timely detailed estimates including labor and material costs, general conditions, subcontractors, overhead and profit.
  • When necessary, assist Project Managers with Change Order estimating.
  • When necessary, assist other estimators with pulling together estimates.
  • Participate in scope review meetings with owners, construction managers, and general contractors to present and validate estimates.
  • Provide timely constructive feedback to direct supervisor regarding project bid status, risks and concerns.
  • Review and assess production feedback from hand back meetings to incorporate into future estimates.
What Are the Requirements of the Job?
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering sciences preferred.
  • Robust technical orientation. Must be able to adapt to utilization of our estimation software, Autodesk Fabrication ESTmep, and on-screen take-offs.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5+ years estimation or field experience in Commercial Piping/Plumbing industry. Proficient knowledge of the systems involved.
  • Must have a positive outlook and personality that allows relationships to be built with equipment manufacturers, material suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and an overall attitude to “get the job done" especially during peak periods.
  • Ideal candidates will demonstrate sense of urgency, creativity, and uncompromised passion for success.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to move or lift up to 50+ lbs.
  • Ability to reach, grasp, hold, push, pull, bend, twist, squat, climb, kneel.
  • Ability to utilize hand/eye coordination.
  • Capability to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Communication skills.
