Position: Sr. Staff Accountant

Department: Finance

Reports To: Controller

Employment Type: Full-Time; Exempt

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to join our corporate finance team. Operating under the direct guidance of the Controller & VP of Finance, this role functions at a senior operational level, blending advanced general ledger management, corporate budgeting, and executive reporting support with the oversight and reconciliation of our multi-entity transactional data pipelines.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting acumen, excellent modeling capabilities, and a process-improvement mindset. This position will actively partner with the Controller and VP of Finance to ensure absolute reporting accuracy, manage complex month-end close mechanics across multiple business units, and analyze daily operational KPIs to support executive decision-making.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced analysis and insight to all Fair Oaks Farms entities on issues related to financial accounting, recording, and reporting.
  • Partner with department managers to build operational budgets, compile rolling monthly forecasts, and generate comprehensive monthly Budget vs. Actual variance analysis models for leadership review.
  • Lead and coordinate the month-end close process, including executing journal entries, managing payroll accruals, overseeing prepaid accounts, calculating month-end transfers, and supporting inventory reconciliation.
  • Maintain full general ledger ownership across assigned corporate entities, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all account balances.
  • Execute payroll journal entries, manage payroll accruals, oversee prepaid accounts, calculate month-end transfers, and direct inventory month-end support and reconciliation under the direction of the Controller.
  • Lead coordination of the annual corporate budgeting cycle; partner with department managers to build operational budgets and compile rolling monthly forecasts.
  • Oversee the integrity of high-frequency transactional data workflows; review and reconcile daily cash, ecommerce, and operational metrics across multiple entities and validate within the ERP system.
  • Manage multi-entity intercompany transactions, balance sheet reconciliations, and cross-corporate billing.
  • Oversee Accounts Receivable invoicing, monitor aging schedules, and direct strategic collections protocols.
  • Create and communicate daily and monthly financial reports; keep all reporting confidential and distribute to appropriate company staff.
  • Assist the finance leadership team in compiling supplemental financial analysis, margin tracking, and operational KPI data for executive presentations.
  • Ensure all company policies relative to accounting and finance conform to US GAAP and that all legal requirements and filing deadlines across all Fair Oaks Farms entities and government agencies are met.
  • Continually evaluate accounting workflows to identify inefficiencies; partner with the internal team to design, test, and implement process improvements that enhance the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
  • Implement new systems and reporting tools as needed.
  • Help maintain a positive work environment by encouraging appropriate behavior and treating all employees with respect, empathy, and dignity.
  • Keep the financial management team promptly and fully informed of all significant issues, unusual matters, and positive developments; take corrective action where necessary or recommend alternative courses of action.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or requested.

Job Requirements:

  • Credible financial history and a strong adherence to ethical standards.

  • Ability to handle the pressures of simultaneously managing a range of projects and assignments with competing deadlines.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, Power Query, and complex financial modeling.
  • Strong experience working with ERP systems; familiarity with SAP Business By Design or similar platforms preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial insights clearly to leadership and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain a favorable working relationship with all company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate.

Education/Certification/Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 4–6 years of progressive corporate accounting experience, with a proven track record in general ledger management, multi-entity reconciliations, corporate budgeting, and high-frequency operational data validation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of mid-to-large tier accounting/ERP systems.
