Job description

Job Summary

The Terminal Operator participates in the unloading of cement from trucks and rail cars at the terminal. This position requires hands-on operation of terminal equipment, developing a familiarity with bulk truck and bulk rail car operations. The Cement Terminal Operator must perform all duties in a safety-conscious manner and in compliance with all applicable environmental laws and policies.

Responsibilities
  • Operate moving equipment to spot and unload cement and/or fly ash railcars
  • Load and unload bulk tanker trucks and railcars using an automated loading system; operate a computer billing system
  • Perform tasks ensuring efficient operation of the cement terminal
  • Maintain all mobile equipment in proper operating condition, including checks on tire inflation, brakes, waters, and oil pressure
  • Assist other Terminal Operators in repairs, installations, maintenance, and operations of all terminal equipment
  • Operate weigh devices as Weigh Master
  • Operate mobile equipment: forklift, manlift, railcar mover
  • Monitor product movement to and from storage tanks, coordinating activities with other workers to ensure constant product flow
  • Record operating data such as products and quantities pumped, gauge readings and operating times
  • Keep cement plant facilities clean and orderly
Education

High school diploma/GED

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Physical requirements: able to work in confined spaces, climb up to elevations of 10 to 100 ft., occasionally lift weights of up to 100 lbs.
  • Experience using air, electrical, and hand tools such as chipping guns, jackhammers, wrenches, grinders, and drills of all
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to see and hear safety indicators and warnings
  • Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty conditions
  • Will have exposure to all levels of noise that require the use of hearing protection
  • Able to work varying and flexible workdays and hours
  • Basic welding and cutting skills a plus
  • Industry experience preferred
  • Able to work at heights over 20 feet
Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing.
