Description

Position Summary

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Morgan's leads enterprise technology strategy, AI adoption, data governance, and guest/member-facing digital experience across all Morgan's entities. The CTO is the architect of Morgan's digital future — evaluating, recommending, and implementing technology and AI solutions that improve guest and staff experience, strengthen data-informed decision-making, and advance Morgan's mission of inclusion.

This role carries broader hands‑on responsibility for technology infrastructure and vendor/hardware decisions than a purely strategic CTO function — spanning guest‑facing systems, security and access‑control infrastructure, and property technology build‑outs — in addition to enterprise AI strategy, data architecture, and technology governance. The CTO partners closely with the Executive Leadership Team and reports to the Group President.

Note on scope: several current essential functions relate to active technology buildouts (e.g., Hotel opening, Camp accreditation infrastructure, campus security/surveillance systems). This hands‑on infrastructure and hardware‑selection work is expected to taper as these builds are completed in 2026. The role's center of gravity shifting further toward AI strategy, data enablement, and enterprise technology governance. The essential functions below reflect the full current scope; candidates should expect the balance of time to shift over the role's initial first year.

Essential Functions Technology Strategy & Vision
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive technology roadmap aligned with organizational goals, evaluated against industry benchmarks with a focus on return on effort and ROI.
  • Champion innovation, scalability, and operational efficiency across all digital initiatives, in coordination with entity leaders as outlined in current projects.
  • Create technical collaborations that contribute to development efforts supporting public and private funding.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and cybersecurity across all digital systems and locations, including oversight of third‑party compliance platforms (e.g., Drata).
AI Strategy & Enterprise Innovation
  • Own and maintain an enterprise AI and technology innovation roadmap, including generative AI, intelligent assistants (e.g., Myma), and enterprise answer/knowledge engines.
  • Identify, pilot, and scale agentic workflow and automation opportunities (e.g., inquiry handling, donor engagement follow‑up, financial reconciliation) in partnership with department leaders.
  • Establish AI governance, responsible‑use policy, and role‑based access standards; oversee business associate agreements and data‑sharing compliance for AI vendors.
  • Evaluate AI platforms, tools, and vendors against business value, security, privacy, scalability, and cost.
Guest & Member Experience Technology
  • Oversee property and guest‑facing technology for Morgan’s including native app development, and for Morgan's Hotel, including smart‑room accessibility features guest check‑in technology, as well as similar technological advancements in other Morgan’s entities.
  • Direct technology infrastructure decisions supporting active builds — connectivity, access control, surveillance, point‑of‑sale, and wristband/fob systems — in coordination with construction, architecture, and procurement partners during current build‑out phases.
  • Partner with entity teams (Camp, MAC, Wonder Care, Sports, Inclusion Institute etc.) to modernize guest‑and member‑facing technology, including scheduling, member portals, and EMR integrations.
  • Evaluate and support partner technology integrations (e.g., YMCA, Wonder Care) including low‑voltage, WiFi, and access‑control infrastructure.
Cross‑Enterprise Data & Systems Integration
  • Maintain enterprise visibility into the state of data across all Morgan's software and platforms; lead the long‑term strategy to unify disconnected data sources for enterprise‑wide analytics.
  • Evaluate and advance a data warehouse strategy with AI reporting capabilities, including secure, private LLM‑based tools.
  • Promote effective integration between organizational applications, databases, and platforms to reduce duplicate data entry and disconnected processes.
  • Ensure the privacy, security, and ethical use of data across all systems, including IT policy development and disaster recovery planning.
Vendor, Budget & Performance Management
  • Manage the enterprise technology budget, approve technology‑related expenditures, and partner with Finance to ensure spend stays on track.
  • Source, negotiate, and oversee technology vendor and managed‑services relationships (e.g., MyTech) to ensure timely, on‑budget, high‑satisfaction delivery.
  • Track KPIs, ROI, and project delivery timeliness across enterprise technology initiatives; report enterprise‑wide technology performance to the Group President and Executive Leadership Team.
  • Evaluate and recommend technology headcount and staffing needs as initiatives and enterprise scale grow.
Cross‑Enterprise Consulting & Leadership
  • Serve as the enterprise's internal technology consultant, translating department needs (Finance, People Services, Marketing, Development, Operations, the Institute) into technology solutions and business cases.
  • Provide grant‑submission support and technical backup materials for the Development team.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to executive, operational, and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Oversee third‑party vendors, developers, and consultants; foster a technology culture centered on agility, learning, and mission alignment.
Requirements & Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required (Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology Management, or related field); master’s degree a plus.
  • 8+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, including executive‑level management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing both internal operational systems and public/guest‑facing technology, including infrastructure and hardware‑adjacent vendor management.
  • Strong knowledge of AI/ML platforms, cloud computing, SaaS tools, APIs, CRM/CMS, and systems integration; experience with agentic/automation workflows a plus.
  • Experience with HIPAA or similar regulatory compliance frameworks and data governance.
  • Nonprofit, hospitality, healthcare, or accessibility‑focused organization experience preferred but not required.
  • Valid Texas driver's license required; role requires regular travel across Morgan's entities.
