About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on, strategic Corporate Controller to lead financial accounting, cost controls, risk management, and operational reporting for an established logistics, heavy materials, and fleet transport company.

Reporting directly to the President, you will oversee consolidated financial statements, lead ERP optimization initiatives, evaluate business unit P&Ls, and manage a dedicated accounting team. This is a high-visibility leadership role responsible for building robust cost-accounting structures, managing cash flow, and driving job profitability across multiple operating entities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting & Month-End Close: Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting close processes. Deliver complete consolidated financial statements, GL reconciliations, inventory controls, and variance analyses by target monthly deadlines.
  • Cost Accounting & Job Profitability: Build and evaluate cost-accounting frameworks across all business units, operating locations, and specific jobs to identify cost-saving opportunities and boost margins.
  • ERP Implementation & IT Oversight: Lead the continuous optimization or implementation of the enterprise ERP system; partner with third-party IT providers to oversee software, networking, and hardware systems.
  • Team Leadership & Financial Controls: Manage day-to-day accounting operations and supervise accounting staff handling A/P, A/R, billing, credit/collections, and payroll support.
  • Compliance, Insurance & Asset Management: Oversee corporate risk management, including annual insurance renewals (liability, worker's comp, property), vehicle/equipment licensing (IFTA compliance, lease agreements), credit approvals, and lien waivers.
  • Cash Management & Debt Analytics: Manage daily cash flow, positive pay, bank reconciliations, inter-company allocations, and track long-term equipment debt relative to current assets.
  • Strategic Growth & Advisory: Collaborate with the President on long-term capital structures, equipment investments, M&A/acquisition strategies, and business unit expansions.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, with proven success as a Controller or Assistant Controller within logistics, fleet transportation, heavy construction, aggregates/mining, or building materials.
  • Financial Mastery: Strong expertise in cost accounting, job costing, inventory controls, consolidated financial reporting, and complex P&L management.
  • Systems Leadership: Demonstrated track record leading or optimizing enterprise ERP systems and modernizing accounting workflows.
  • Regulatory & Operational Compliance: Familiarity with heavy equipment asset tracking, multi-entity accounting, sales/real estate tax, and industry-specific compliance (e.g., IFTA reporting, equipment financing, lien waivers).
  • Leadership Style: Executive-level communication skills with a hands-on, collaborative approach to partnering with plant/fleet operations and executive leadership.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA, CMA, or MBA is a strong plus.
