Job description

Summary/Objective

The Assistant Director of Facilities administers and directs programs which ensure that all University facilities are structurally sound, operationally efficient, well-maintained, and safe. The Assistant Director of Facilities establishes priorities for scheduled maintenance services and operations, administers preventive maintenance programs for all facilities, and supervises the performance of emergency and routine maintenance on campus facilities. Responsibilities include enforcement of federal regulations governing environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal, and the use of chemical substances and materials. The Assistant Director of Facilities develops constructive relationships with clients, coworkers, supervisors, and peers. The Assistant Director of Facilities provides management for facilities personnel.

Essential Job Duties
  • Develops and maintains a cost effective custodial, grounds, and maintenance supply inventory by working with various team members and evaluating items on a regular basis to maintain inventory control.

Maintains and coordinates the completion of custodial, grounds, and maintenance work order requests from students, faculty, and staff by utilizing the computerized work order management system.

  • Maintains comprehensive safety programs for the custodial, grounds, and maintenance trades.
  • Develop and oversee maintenance, service, and replacement schedule for grounds equipment with collaboration of the Grounds Supervisor.
  • Field after hours emergency phone calls and contact the appropriate tradesperson.
  • Develop relationships with internal and external constituents with special attention to campus directors, Academics, Residence Life, Athletics, and Conference Center.
  • Communicate with persons of various backgrounds professionally and in a courteous manner.
  • Attends professional development seminars and/or classes periodically that pertain to the area of responsibilities (including essential functions) of this position.
  • Maintain documentation of employee performance and behavior.
  • Inspect areas to ensure that standards of cleanliness are being met.
  • Collaborate with Custodial Services Supervisor and Central Receiving Clerk to maintain current MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) for chemicals used and stored in the custodial inventory.
  • Responsible for employee time sheet approvals.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Set an example of a Christian lifestyle for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Commitment and adherence to Southwest Baptist University's Principles and Expectations.

Position RequirementsRequired

High school diploma or GED and at least five years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

o Bachelor's degree or certificate in an appropriate, related discipline may be substituted for experience.

Three or more years of supervisor experience.

Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.

Project planning skills.

Ability to identify and implement creative solutions to complex problems.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

This position is on-call at all hours.

Preferred

Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate, related discipline.

Supervisory experience in a higher education setting.

Professional certifications related to educational facilities management.

Work Environment

Ability to work in various environments including typical office environments, outdoor environments with adverse weather conditions and construction/renovation sites. Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, vibration, and noise. May be required to work on and/or around slippery surfaces both indoors and out. Subject to working near machinery, power tools, and vehicles in motion. On occasion, may be exposed to confined spaces, required to climb onto rooftops, and to access other related physical plant areas.

Physical Abilities

Regularly required to sit, walk, talk and hear. Visual ability needed to read architect plans, equipment diagrams and inspect parts.

Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull a variety of tools, equipment, and materials up to 80lbs.

Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder.

Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and get in and out of the vehicle frequently during each work day.
