Job description

Description The Engineer I provides professional field and office civil engineering work. This position reports to the Assistant County Engineer and is located in Watford City, ND. Level and salary commensurate with experience.

Essential Job Functions Under the supervision of the Assistant County Engineer, acts as an inspector on construction projects. Inspects items such as hot bituminous pavement, concrete pavement, earthwork, culvert installation, etc. Monitors and keeps accurate, daily records of contractor operations to assure project is built according to plans and specifications.

Supervise materials sampling/testing and construction surveying on the project. Checks the dimensions and tolerances of constructed roadway features to ensure conformance to plans and specifications. Measures, computes and documents pay items to ensure proper payment for work done under the contract.

Provides technical assistance and consults with other Departments regarding engineering functions, site development, drainage, and transportation. Reviews prepared plans and contract documents for projects to ensure County standards are being met. Assists with permit inspections to ensure compliance with approved permit and relevant standards, as assigned.

Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited post-secondary institution. Engineer Intern registration or the ability to obtain within 6 months Valid Driver's License Must be able to report to Watford City, ND daily at required schedule time Extensive knowledge of computers, computer programs, scanning equipment and various other office machines Ability to use CAD systems Knowledge of construction management Extensive organizational skills and communication skills Must be a self-starter and goal oriented Physical requirements and working conditions: Able to handle exposure to noise and extreme weather conditions Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, kneel, stoop, sit, walk extensively.
