Job description


SUMMARY:

Medical Assistants (MA) at Lynn Community Health Center (LCHC) deliver high-touch care as integral members of the integrated care team in a patient-centered health home. LCHC MA’s continually embrace and adopt increasingly dynamic and complex responsibilities to meet the demands of an ever-evolving healthcare marketplace and the integration of innovation in patient care delivery. The MA will perform a variety of patient care activities as a core member of an interdisciplinary health home team. Duties include managing provider flow, rooming patients, collecting vital signs and specimens, performing point of care testing and screenings, collecting components of the patient’s health history and psychosocial circumstances, preparing for patient care by recognizing needed screenings, tests, and treatments, and placing appropriate orders in the patient health record.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Optimize patient satisfaction, provider time and exam room utilization by maintaining patient flow, keeping appointments on schedule by alerting provider of patient’s arrival, reviewing service delivery compared to schedule, and reminding provider of delays.
  • Assure efficient patient visit by assuring all appropriate data, documentation, reports and forms are available to the provider prior to the visit.
  • Obtain brief history of chief complaint/reason for visit, allergy status and other pertinent information on the appropriate EHR.
  • Perform all vital signs, necessary screenings, measurements, and point of care testing and record results accurately on the appropriate EHR template.
  • Prepare patient for examination by the provider, assisting as needed with undressing, gowning, draping, etc. and preparing the necessary equipment/supplies needed for the exam/procedure.
  • Assist provider during and after the exam, including chaperoning, assisting with procedures, interpreting, labelling and sending specimens to lab, and clearing away instruments etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Training program with a successfully completed externship or Completion of a Medical Assistant Training program and 6 months’ experience working as a medical assistant.
  • Medical Assistant certification from an accredited program preferred.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish/Khmer/ Russian with knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Exceptional attendance and a positive work attitude
  • A desire to work as a collaborative member of a multi-disciplinary team

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous medical assisting experience in a community setting with demonstrated attention to detail, preferred.
