About Working on a “Floatel” 

LandSea will be providing workforce catering and accommodation services for guests onboard the MV Isabelle, a 650-passenger “Floatel”.   
At work, the crew is provided with accommodation, full meals, and WIFI, and can access health/gym facilities when off work. We provide partial uniforms and help with the travel/reservations as needed to and from locations. Excellent Health and Wellness benefits are being offered.

 

Union Status and Collective Agreement

Your position is unionized and falls within the bargaining unit represented by UNITE HERE! Local 40. The terms and conditions of your employment, including wages, hours of work, and working conditions—are governed entirely by the prevailing Memorandum of Agreement (“MOA”) between Landsea and the Union.

Your base salary will be $24.57/hour. You will also receive overtime pay paid at time and a half for hours worked over 40 hours/week. There will be rotating shifts, and variable start times. You will be entitled to 10 days of paid holiday (or 4% of gross salary). Your compensation strictly complies with the UNITE HERE! Local 40 wage scale for this classification.

About the Opportunity 

  • This is a temporary position for a service contract that will start on Sept. 25th, 2026 and end on January 30th, 2027. We have 4 openings for 2nd Cook.   
  • The 2nd Cook is responsible for assisting the 1st Cook in preparing all meals and ensuring the kitchen, dining, and living areas are always clean and sanitary. This position requires the ability to follow directions and be diligent, focused, and consistent. Comfort with kitchen equipment and knife skills are required. 
Job Responsibilities
  • All food preparation such as breakfast, lunch, sandwiches, snacks, hot dinner meals, salads, soups, etc. 
  • Set up breakfast line, lunch station, and dining room; monitor accompaniments and restock as required. 
  • Clean up after all meal service, including wiping tables, and counters and washing pots, pans, dishes, and cutlery. 
  • Sweep and mop floors, wipe tables and counters, break down cardboard and boxes, maintain kitchen appliances, and clean vents and exhaust areas. 
  • Assist with preparation and disassembly for moving and relocation. 
  • Report to 1st Cook all food and equipment-related concerns and issues. 
  • Assist 1st Cook with administration, ordering, and inventory counts. 
  • Learn the 1st Cook role to assist when necessary. 
  • Other duties may be assigned. 
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as 2nd Cook 
  • Proven organizational and time management skills in an industrial kitchen environment. 
  • Food Safety certification in the province of British Columbia for the duration of employment is required. 
  • Ability to work within a multicultural diverse environment. 
  • Excellent written and verbal English 

Physical Requirements 

  • Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch for long periods.  
  • Repeat the same movements including fast, repetitive movements of fingers, hands, and wrists.  
  • Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 lbs.  
  • Use hands to handle objects and tools.  

Certifications and other requirements 

  • All crew members onboard the MV Isabelle must have the minimum marine safety (Seafarers) certifications required by Transport Canada for the specific job. 
  • MED STCW Basic Safety Training.
  • Marine Basic First Aid.
  • MED STCW Survival Craft.
  • Passenger Safety Management.
  • Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test before hiring and potential random tests. throughout employment with prior notice. 
  • WHMIS 2015. 
  • Valid Government Issued Identification. 
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian, PR Status, or valid Work Permit). 
  • Criminal Record Check. 
  • Able to work the night shift. 
  • Available to work multiple rotations including 21-7, 2-2, 4-2, etc.
