JOB SUMMARY

Hospitality Services is responsible for the planning, coordinated development, management and implementation of food, nutrition and environmental activities, programs, services and initiatives to the residents of a municipal long term care facility.  

You are responsible for assisting the cook in preparing all food served, including general menu, special diets, meals-on-wheels, and Day Care Resident's meals, with an emphasis on resident safety and engagement. Work is performed in accordance with Public Health regulations, Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and Food Premises Act.
 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade ten (10) and the Assistant Cook Certification program (15 weeks)

One (1) year of Cooking experience at an institution, health care, restaurant, or hospitality setting or related organization

KNOWLEDGE
  • Knowledge of the Canada Food Guide, Ontario Public Health Act (Health Protection and Promotion Act: Food Premises), Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, Food Premises and the "Sanitation Code" for Canada's Food Industry.
  • Preparation of bulk food

  • Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.       
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.  
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
