Position Summary
The First Line Cook is responsible for assisting with day-to-day operations of the kitchen team including food preparations for restaurants, catering and events, and food carving/buffet stations. The role requires a strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards and protocols as this role will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment.

  • Key Accountabilities
    • Daily cooking and preparation of food for various building areas
    • Prepare hot plates, cold plates, soups, salads, sauces, and sandwiches for the restaurant, suites, and banquet functions
    • Perform a variety of butchering tasks such as trimming roasts, cutting ribs, chicken, etc.
    • Ensure proper storage, handling, and use of food inventories
    • Maintain a high standard of safety and sanitation as governed by standards and protocols
    • Communicate with kitchen staff, cooks, sous chefs, and the executive chef;
    • Follow instructions as directed by supervisors, sous chefs, and the executive chef
    • Attend carving stations on buffets and/or private functions;
    • Actively participate in safety programs and follow polices;
    • Assist in all areas of the kitchen as required
    • All other duties as assigned.
    THE INDIVIDUAL
    The ideal candidate will have the following background:
    • 5+ years restaurant or hotel cook experience required
    • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
    • High attention to detail and strong ability to maintain an organized kitchen
    • Vast knowledge of kitchen terminology
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks at once
    • Strong interpersonal and team work skills.
  • Basic FoodSafe certification
  • Culinary Education/Trade papers and asset

Please note, this position is based on the event schedule in a fast paced environment, with emphasis on evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. Shift lengths vary, and require flexible working times.
